View Full Version : Headlight question

How can you get the cover of the headlights off of the headlights? The reason is that I want to paint the housing of my headlights the same colour that my car's getting painted, and I don't want to slice the silicon on new headlights. Is there any way to detach the cover to get access into the housing without any major operation on the headlights?

Thanks in advance.

remove the metal clips around the headlights
use a knife and cut your way around the headlights, it may help to heat them up a bit... do NOT pry them open, you WILL create little cracks outside the headlights and risk shattering them.

If I cut around it will this require me to silicon the cover back on?

yes, it does. and I know what you're worried about.... water getting inside and the headlights fogging up. drill a hole in the back away from the bulbs, or at the bottom, this will allow for venting of air and will stop fogging... (at worst, fogging will go away after around 5-10 mins after going through the car wash or similar.)

I see. Thanks for the info man!

Also is it true that Euro Ellipsoid headlights come with a removeable faceplate?

you mean the glass cover can be removed?... no. It's easier to remove, but it doesn't just unclip or anything like that.
