Well I finally did my first LONG trip with my 96 318i/M44(auto, ya go ahead say it). Went for my yearly camping/fishing trip with my buds north of Kingston. Took my wheels this yr and I was pretty impressed. I filled the take up at 96.5!!(ouch I know) The Friday morning. Did the drive out and back without refuelling. I drove into my driveway with 703km clocked, and no low fuel warning light. I just went out now(almost 12am) to get gas and filled up 54L's. So I figure I did about 7.68L/per 100Km or 36.77Mpg. There was I would say more then a few KM's where it wasn't hwy driving, but a few backroads that went up and down, doing alot less then 120km/h. I also gunned it a few times coming across Hwy 7(East of Peterborough) to pass gramma and grandpa out for a Sunday drive.

So what size is the tank on a 318?

I believe all e36's have a tank of 17.20 gallons except for the 318ti which has a 13.70 gallon tank.

that's what the 318's are good for... fuel economy. I just went to Waterloo and back and used only 1/4 tank.. the whole time kicking it at around 140km - 180km.

703km, wow, thats very impressive, and with auto too. Youd probably get a bit more if it were the 5spd.

with my 325 Ive gotten the most about 500km with about 5-10L still left in the tank. Thats a combo of hwy/city driving, yet mostly hwy, and about approx. speed of 130km/hr.

On the way out with one passanger (200Lb) and LOTS of gear, doing on average about 140km/h. On the way back I was doing about 100Km, because I ended up taking Hwy 7 across then to the 407(which I went back up to 120-140).

On my weekly drive from Brampton to Islington Subway, I get about 550Km on a tank.

With a 5 spd M44 is way better. I get avrg 720Klm per tank 40/60 City/Hyw
cruising at 130 and aggresive driving in city also on high test only.

I just came back from Minnesota with my 95 325ic. I got about 9.5L/100km's. The car was packed full. So I guess that's not bad ehhh.

actually 65L. 60L officially, but an extra 5L reserve. (after your needle says EMPTY, you actually have 5L left.)

I think you actually get lower milage if you have standard trans.
5th speed is a 1:1 ratio
and i beleive if you have auto, 4th is just a tad lower... like 0.93:1 or something like that
