lets say that this 535i has a 1990 735i engine in it, a average body (little to no rust), a clean paint job, average interior, and 170 000kms on the clock. what price range would it be in. i want to know if the one im looking at is overpriced

I would say in the 2-4g range.....depending on how much rust we are really talking about here. I would really have to see it I guess.

But that's if someone will pay it....those cars are not that desirable anymore really, (Except to guys like me! :) and you have to find the right buyer.

My Dad has a 1987 535i with 305,000km on it. But his is mint. And I mean there is not a mark on the car. Also a recaro interior that is perfect. We were talking what his car is worth the other day, and he thought in the 6g range. That is in BC though, and those cars fetch a bit more out there.

Ohhhhh that car.....I have seen pictures of it on this board before, forget who it was that owned it then. I'm not a huge fan of that car, but it is unique, and a bit of time and money spent on it I suppose.

What are they asking for it?

well I would have to see the car and drive it. but if you drive it and like it, and it's in as good as shape you had hoped, then offer him something.
Just to remember that if the time came to sell it, it wouldn't be an easy car to sell.

you should inspect religiously the rust situation of that car if you are going to drop $5K on it. (any car in general, I don't know this car or it's owner). Also once you seriously decided top buy it, drive through twice on a good car wash (toucless) or spray as much water as possible to catch any electrical problems.
