Hi there,

I'm new to this board and wanted to introduce myself.

I drive a E46 M3 '02 Topaz blue.

I also race the tracks with a E46 Sedan with an E36 M3 engine.

Welcome to the board Rutger. Love your E46's...... Good to hear that we have another 'racer' on the board - and another one from Europe. We can ask you about the differences over there, cars etc...... I was just in the Netherlands this spring. Loved it, a lot. Anyhow. Welcome.

Rob, your race car looks pretty good as well! I started racing in a BMW E30 325i which was later converted to a 327i. Always had a lot of fun in this car.

Rico, I'd love to comment on the differences but I'm not really into specs of car. I like to drive them and comment later on. When reading a flyer about a new car I can't make up whether it's a good car or not.

welcome to the board rutger..do u got any pics of the e46 sedan going around the track? btw..why do u guys use a sedan with m3 engine instead of jus using a coupe with m3 engine? or e36 with e46 m3 engine? or even e30 with e46 m3 engine..is that possible?

Nice ride!!!*th-up* Planning any mods?

09-18-2002, 03:48 AM
The E46 coupe is full options except for SMG. At the time I was ordering my car (04-2001) there was no option to testdrive an SMG model. I drive stick since I'm driving cars and I like it a lot, so giving it away by ordering SMG was not very easy. I wanted to testdrive first so I could decide. But they didn't have any cars in Holland to testdrive, neither in Germany!

So I decided to go manual. The wait for SMG would have been 4 months longer as well, that was a big disadvantage as well! I ordered in 04-01 and got mine 09-01 (very quick, the waiting list in Holland is almost a year normally).

I'm not planning on any mods. I think BMW M knows exactly what's good for the car and for now I'm still very glad with the looks/performance that the car delivers standard.

As for racing, this car is totally modified. Nothing is standard anymore. The reason for choosing an E36 M3 engine mounted into an E46 sedan was that my car was build in 2000 and there simply was no E46 M3 engine available at that time.

The reason for choosing a sedan instead of a coupe is because of the stiffer chassis the sedan has standard (the doors of a coupe are made of glass which support the chassis less)

BMW E46 Sedan (1270 kg)
BMW E36 M3 3.0 ltr. motor (360 bhp) (300 measured at the wheels)
Schrikk camshafts, modified piston rings
Modified computer management (8200 rpm max)
Airbox (like Dynan cold air intake) (was K&N filter which sucked)
Intrax Racing Suspension chassis (created for ETCC)
AP Racing Brakes (360mm, vented and drilled discs)
Race ABS
Short shift kit
AP Racing clutch (2300 grams)
Fully adjustable swaybars and camber (front 5,5 degrees, rear 4,6 degrees)
18" BBS aluminium wheels

Those pictures are excellent. I love the last one you posted. Wish I could see that car in person! Good stuff!

Thanks for the compliment. The last picture is actually the best pic from this season (about 1000 pics taken). It's VERY hard to catch the speed of a car on camera. The picture is taken by a professional photographer who attends all our events.

My buddies always try to photograph me as well but they cannot stand on the spots where the professional photographers can, it's almost impossible to make nice shots from the viewpoints my buddies are at!

If you're interested in racing photo's:

All sorts of cars can be found. The entire season is saved here!

Do you have pics of your car? Do you drive an E46 or E36 328i?

A friend of mine has one and with the right exhaust system these engines sound better than an M3! Great car

those 19' euro wheels are so sweet, i lvoe the look of them, i think they look much better than the regular 18's that come standard...

how fast is your sedan with the M3 motor?

10-02-2002, 04:05 AM
I don't know how fast it is with the M3 engine, I don't have a speedometer installed.

What I do know is that the weight of the vehicle is now 1270 and that it has 254 bhp on the rearwheels. Which gives the car a bhp/wheigt ratio of 1 on 5.

My E46 Coupe has a power to weight ratio of 1 on 4.73 so this car should be a bit quicker. But next year I'll lighten the car using carbon fibre doors and lexan windows which will reduce wheight by 180 kg. Then it should be a lot faster then my E46 coupe!
