BMW dealerships are insane! i will\was going to pickup a 94 320i from a dealership in relatively good shape. i put down a deposit, and was gunna pickup the car when i got back from austin. i found out from a friend that if the car isn't saftied, that i can't even get a 10 day permit because i'm getting the car from a dealership. I called the guy up told him to do a saftety for me, expecting it to need little to nothing. This is what he came back with.

----------------------

Here is the list Mirek:

Safety Inspection - $123.05

Front Brake pads and rotors - $452.53

Catalytic Converter (Inc. Gaskets) - $1701.59

Rear Coil Spring - $332.24

Outer Ball Joint - $204.26

Rear Trailing/Susp. Arm Bushing - $494.43

4 Wheel Align - $160.94

Front Coil Springs - $467.59

Foglights, Assembly - $497.61

Outside Mirror Glass - $101.43

Windshield Wiper Motor Assembly - $604.21

Front Wiper Blades - $25.42

Parts=$2355.20

Labour=$2136.35

Total with tax = $5165.28

This quote does not include a bumper skin that's needed. They didn't have the quote for that. I'm assuming this is not what you'd like to spend on this car. If I'm wrong let me know. If you'd like to opt out of this car, I'll refund your deposit (minus the cost of the inspection).

---------------------------------------

do you need a cat for safety? these prices are so insane! i remember the foglights worked fine too... and since when do you need foglights for safety?! many cars dont have foglights. *thmbsdwn* to bmw dealerships..

Just as a joke make him an offer of $5165.28 less then the asking price...because the car DOES NEED all that work!!! (With papers to prove!) ROFL...Then get Charlie to fix it for a few $$$...

Wow, thats actually pretty cheap, everything on my dad's bimmer is cheaper than my Acura. I recently changed the rear trailing arm bushings but I did it myself. Acura wanted $1200 to just change the bushings (costs $800 for just the bushigs themselves)
-An Alignment for $160 wow that is cheap for a dealer, Acura would charge over $200
-Friend of mine had his wiper replaced on his Acura cost $50, Acura charges $20 to just replaces the rubber inserts on the wiper major rip off!

Acutally most of the stuff you listed there besides the wiper motor and foglights assembly are reletively fair prices alot cheaper than an Acura. Now I wish I bought a BMW instead its actually cheaper.. You guys are lucky! lol

Just drive at the speed limit and obey the traffic laws and no cop will have a reason to stop you...

BTW: Mirek - if you want to opt out of this one - my buddy has a used car dealership that I could probably find something via auction for you... he doesn't keep BMW's on the lot, not his clientele (he sells 90% minivans)

Insurance won't do you any good unless u have the plates to go with it for that car...

So in a sense your driving a vehicle w/o plates or insurance... in that case the fine for no insurance is $5000 alone.

But I wouldn't worry about it... I've done it enough times... just be careful and have someone follow u, it's all good *th-up*

What dealership did you get the quote from? If you would like to save yourself some money you should try the Oakville BMW dealership. I have found their prices a lot better. My contact at the Oakville dealership is Gregor Ibowski - his number is 1-800-209-2242 or 905-845-3577. You might also want to try Lakeside Motors in Scarborough. My contact at Lakeside Motors is Mike Colangelo at 416-267-4641. *th-up*

deep, i need a car asap, like this weekend. if your friend can still help, send me a pm,

Is this car a "Certified Series BMW" from the dealer???

windwagen
05-05-2005, 12:46 AM
Did I read it right? They are willing to offer a refund for your deposit? That's pretty fair.

I'm suprised they are willing to sell you a car that is so old. I thought the BMW dealers only sold CPO cars - which will be saftied and etested.

Also, are those prices for the parts only? It' doesn't add up.

You are wrong on this one...You DONT need to have plates for insurance (thats why temporary plates exist!), you and also transfer your VALID plates and use them untill you change the ownership! *th-up*

So the legal thing to do in this situation is call your insurance, put it on your policy, go to DMV and they ask for insurance, then the give you a 10 day permit ($15), now you can drive the car to get safety/e-test and have it transfered within 7 days.

to add to this

provided the car was fit for the road prior to the sale, if the car has been sitting for (i cant remember exact time) then it becomes unfit for the road and wont be given a 15 day permit until a safty has been issued
look on the ownership you will see at the top if it says "UNF" meaning unfit or "PAS" meaning fit for the road

Ok, you don't need fogs to pass safety. And you know, fogs are an option.

$160 for an alignment is rediculous
I don't understand why you NEED 4 new springs. If they're not broken, cracked, or superly rusted they should be ok.

Get as many used parts as possible.

You can probably cut that full bill including labour to under $1500

yeah, that's what i will do. charlie will probably be hearing from me.

and to add, since the car was purchased from the dealership, as unfit, i can't get a 10day permit.

It has nothing to do with sitting, when ownership is chaged without sefety/e-test, the car becomes unfit and you cant get a temp plate... :( Just like in this case here...
