The 325iA, by a good bit. This is from experience with both exact cars BTW.

Loaner cars? I've only driven a 330Ci, and it doesn't feel faster than my E30.

I've driven E46 320's, 323's, 325's. 5-speed 320i's feel unexpectedly good, the 2.2L gives just enough torque to feel like you're moving. Auto ones are complete dogs though.

The E36 325iA is a little slow off the line as you'd expect, but once they're rolling they move along quite nicely. koncise consistently stays right beside me on the highway, up to go-directly-to-jail-and-don't-stop-at-go speeds.

what about an e36 325is vs 03 dinan 3's car, its a dinan 3 so exhaust, TB, intake, chip who would win? and if teh e36 was sharked obviously teh e36 would win right?

Show me dyno slips for both cars and I'll speculate.

Seriously, once mods get thrown in, there are too many variables to guess who would win a race. Go to Cayuga and end the bench racing this summer, it's more fun and shuts the big talkers up. *th-up*

Mystikal: how sure are you?
How can an older generation 3 be faster than a newer one... :huh?: It aint making sense bro! I could believe the 2.8 being the same or slightly faster, but I wouldn't think that a 96 2.5 is faster than a 2003 one.

yup, power to weight ratio... u can have 1000 hp tank, and i can have a geo metro and i'd probably beat it, btw, this is just an example, dont go racing tanks in your geos....

The E36 is faster because it makes more power and weighs quite a bit less, with similar gearing. You're also comparing a base model at the time E46 with a top of the line at the time E36, thinking about it that way will help make sense of the matter.

325i M54 6 cylinder 192 HP 240 km/h 2000 - present

The M50B25 makes 189 SAE HP.
The M54B25 makes 184 SAE HP.
