Parents are thinking of possibily getting a used X5, any problems/concerns? how good are they?

:D .....i'll try to pull up my old thread...it has some good info in it regarding x5 problems...they have some minor elec problems..but i'm not sure of anything hardcore mechanicswise

i dont think there would be a lot of engine proplems that 3l has been used in other models without problems but yea there have been electrical problems probably because the x5 isnt built in germany rather the usa

We have a 2002 3.0i and *knock on wood* haven't had issues. We take care of it pretty well doing things like changing the oil every 5K kms and stuff like that. We're planning on keeping it unless we fall into some money and can jump into a Porsche Cayanne S. I know of one 3.0 X5 that *popped* the motor but that's because it wasn't maintained at all. MEchanic said it was lucky if it ever had it's oil changed. Ours has been reliable and we have so far REALLY enjoyed it.

My buddy had a X5 4.4i very nice very mean.. but if u abused it in the snow u get mad tranny errors and the suspension doesn't like going in circles and drifting.. But hella fast for crusin'
AND NO TO CAYENNE! :mad:
this dude blew up his Cayenne Turbo..

I've had a mess of problems with my 01 but BMW has fixed everything (even after the warranty expired).
Biggest problem is the crank case ventilation system. Replaced 3 times so far. Last time it failed, it blew oil all over the engine compartment. Dealer now recommend 0-40 oil in the winter.
Lower control arms replaced twice. Exhaust valve and related components. Rear hatch latches will fail again.
But... 4 years old with 73k... and rides like new. A blast to drive. No plans to sell.

HA, ha, ha....... LMAO :D That Porsche pic is funny. I'd like to REALLY know what happened to make it detonate like that. Anyways, not interested in the Turbo. And everyone tells me to get the VW version but it's in the details........... plus likely never gonna happen anyways as would have to obtain wife approval and the question I'll have to answer is "what's wrong with the X5 that I like....... that we need to git rid of it???"

01-02 X5's had a problem with the CV joints dying as well.
