If the car is in good shape and your insurance company isn't going to nail you for insurance then go for it.

I used to hate 5.0L's but:

-The aftermarket parts and used parts are cheap/easy to find
-They can be set up for street, track, and road course driving and be very fast!

Unless you are trading it in for a mint condition 1993 5.0litre LX then forget about it, the GT is ugly!

Cons.
Gas guzzler.
More cost to insure.
If driven in winter it is no longer a Mustang but Rustang.
Goes through rear tires like crazy.
Noisy cabin.
The Mustangs are prone to cracking body especially on the roof and under carriage.
It is a Mustang

Pros.
Fast.
Cheaper to mod then any BMW, for $3000 you could be in high 12ís
Less cost to maintain.
Extremely durable power train. They take abuse with hardly any failure.

I'd say that's a pretty good trade, as long as you can get wherever you have to go only in a straight line.

In case the sarcasm was to subtle.......I'd never go near that trade.

Hope you have enough money for the gas!!!

That's the ONLY negative I can think of...negative comments made by others are by "haters", so pay no attention.

Do it! *th-up*

True, I have a friend who had one, at the drag strip on launch he completely blew the diff and tranny into bits. They were picking up pieces 50 feet away :D

He since bpoght a 91 535i and swears by it. *th-up*

Stangs are good when new but blow up when they get old, Pretty easy to fix for cheap but be prepared to do major overhauls more often then you would with a bimmer. IMO Keep a spare engine & tranny handy you'll need it around the 200,000 k mark if it's been beat hard (like any 5.0 hasn't been). Way cheaper to play with then a bimmer, however the gas may catch up to you.

You know that Ford makes the stang right??

And I see you have noticed that there is still alot on the road.

ATTN: Haters.......

Go to Cayuga and Mosport and watch those cars go.....you will want to trade your BMW as well. Yes gas is an issue but try replacing an AFM on your car or a stock exhaust system. The aftermarket market for those cars is so competitive you can build a fast car for 1/2 the cost of a forced induction system for a BMW.

End of story.

^^yes that is true, but then again bmw are not 1/4 mile cars, there track cars. American sports cars like the stang 5.0L are meant for the strip

Exactly. If you are a hater, theres no need for you to comment on this thread. The guy asked for some real, objective opinions about the pros and cons for the trade. Therefore, say that, otherwise stfu and stop pointing out that its made by Ford.

wow....grumpy. I though we were all friends here. I was just jokin and showing my enthusiasm for his BMW on a site specifically for BMW enthusiasts. I don't really see the issue to get angry about. If we all wanted a car to light up a f'ing drag strip then max wouldn't exist and none of us would be here to give pros and cons.

True the car is faster, the car is cheaper, the car is uglier, Hell with what I could sell my ///M3 for I could have an old stang pushing 800hp......but I won't...... All I'm saying is that if you bought a BMW for any reason other than simply flashing that Blue and White Roundel when you drive around, I can't see how this strip machine will satisfy you.

OK good.. :).........I know about the comments....I'm just trying to convince him away from it.....screw cons. Plus look at his name.....just doesn't fit the stang bill *wiggle*

Personally, the Fox body Mustang is one of the first cars I shit my pants in. My cousin bought one when I was 10 years old and it was his goal to scare the crap out me of. It's cool now because he still has the car and I beat him now.

But yeah, the Mustang if it's in decent condition is not a bad car. And any car will be hard on fuel if driven hard. If you like handling, get a panhard bar for the solid axle, I don't remember if they have one stock.

honestly my opion is that they are both old cars, either way you go doesn't really matter....i'd probably take a e36 but its a toss about between constant breaking down and stupid expensive parts vs. cheap ass parts/mods and not as much prestige but lets face it, are you really gonna be racing around tight apex's with a group of guys or even on mosport.

step 1: Get the stang and drop a charger in it for next to nothing...
step 2: then take it on the 401 and wait till u see a 318 or even an M for that matter step 3: drop a gear and blow the doors off the competition
step 4: laugh...or cry all the way to the gas station! hahahah
