Sony LCD monitors are extreamly hit or miss, i have a 17" wide LCD monitor bought it 4 years ago, and there is not a single thing wrong with it, no pixels nothing, my uncle bought same one (newer model) last year, 2 pixels out of the box, swapped it, again pixels. swapped it, good one. Same thing with some of my friends Sony LCD's. Just gotta keep trying i guess.
