hey guys, im stuck wondering between getting the e36 m3 or the e46 m3? i plan on using this for daily driver and solo events. i also plan on investing alot of time and money into the car. which would you think would be a better choice? also besides the OBD II on the 96-99 m3's are there any pros/cons comparing it to the OBD I? 92-95?

if you are thinking e46 m3 vs e36 m3, I dont think you are seriosly consider purchasing any of those cars.

But if you ask me, definitly e46 m3.

E46>e36>e30

IMO E46>E30>E36

The US E36 M3 motor is not much more than a glorified M50/M52 for cost saving reasons, and to me that kills its appeal. The Euro E36 M3 is a different story though...

true...you're going from $17,000 (e30 M3) to $80,000 (e46 M3). If money's not an issue, and you're not particularly interested in a certain chassis (i.e. e30 for its flares etc...) your answer should be pretty simple...e46 M3!...no major mods needed, maybe a chip, exhaust, CAI...and you're done with ~350 hp.

it really depends on how much u wanna spend first of all ! IMO .. i think the e36 M3 looks better than the e46 M3. so i would go with the e36 *uzi* *wiggle* ... this way ..u have more money to mod = more fun .

Well since you said you'll be attending some solo events in addition to it being a daily driver, go with the E46 M3, given that you have the sufficient funds first. You'll already have a solid baseline to work with on the E46 M3; a strong engine with great handling and also eye candy as a daily driver. One thing I like about the E46 M3 is how it has the variable differential lock up to 100%.

To me money is not the issue, I just live the E36 body style. The E46 is a nice looking ride but it reminds me to much of a Honda.

If you buy a Evo II E30 M3 i think it is way under powered and needs not be bored out to a 2.5L to even get some power cause the the American Spec E30 1988-1989 are not so Great! But I think one of the BEST handling cars in all of the Bmw's. If you are think of getting a E30 find a Evo 3 1990-1991 you may be able to find a 1990 now from Germany, you can now import them in (Every 15 years). If you can find a 1994 Euro (Good Luck, lol) then thats also a amazing car. The E46 is a great all round driving car for every day but how much you willing to pay is the key

E30 should be the car. The 36...cars after 91 were CAD designed in conjunction with both the Engineering department and the Accounting department. Can you say minimum tollerances? Cost savings? Suspension components getting ripped out of your floors? If you don't like E30s get past 93 or so...some of the flaws were worked out...it's called a learning curve. But hey...for the old Bimmers...like E30s(and 28s)...they found what worked and then actually increased or doubled the tollerances. Why do you think these cars are a religion. It takes a lot of money to stiffen up an E36 just so the unibody doesn't rip apart! So if you got money hemouraging out yer ass...buy an E30...body off resto...and tons of personal bling. yOU'LL BE WAY MORE IMPRESSIVE...and as a concession...add an E36 steering rack. Now you got a car!

You don't need to buy an E30 M3 evo. Just make one !! Or the M5 motor in the E30 M3 is wicked. Anyways, the important point here is that there are hardly any E30 M3's around. There are more E36 M3 running around and WAY too many E46 M3's in town. Then again, it's yo muney.

Actually, don't do the E30 M3. I'm building one..... and I'd rather have less then more of them around :moon:

being the owner of an e36 M3, i'd say go for the E36, i love my car and have had no problems with it. I love the way it looks, love the torque, the horsepower and everything else. you will save some cash and still get a great car, on the other hand, i love the look of the E46 M3 and the love the way it drives! If you are not interested in saving some cash and dont mind dishing out around $80,000 for an E46, then go with that cause you will get a faster car.

my 2 cents

So that puts the e30 m3 down? Because too many people like it?

I say it depends what you want from the m3. As a daily no I would not get an e30 m3.

$ 60k can get you E30 M3 with any engine you want, I'll say E30 M3 with M5 V8 engine. That will be aprox. 3kg per Hp. That is fast & original!

E30 M3 because Neu Klasse owns you.

Depends on your driving style and what you want in a car.

E30 M3 if you love corners and a car that fells like a racecar. If you don't mind having a car that has little torque and is flat until 4K. I only recommend for the purest of pure drivers ;) because itís really not a street car IMO
*for all you wanting to swap the S14 to a bigger one shaking head in disbelief

E36 if you want a car which is good power, handles good, and is cheaper to maintain the an E30. Much more refined over all and IMO the sleeper approach ;) to speed

E46 if you got money, like torque and a car that can compete with anything on the road in all aspect of driving. Never been in so really donít know how the car is.

My $0.02 cents E30 M3 its the sexiest one

http://www.motoyen.com/articles/00/ good read and might help making a choice.

If your looking for a daily driver to bling out. E46.

If your looking for a track car. E30 M3 with 2.8L all aluminum out of a Z3! :)

They usually get their parents to buy the car/finance it.... get it insured under parents name,

THEN they either sell their ass on King/williams ST, drug deal, B + E's, Robberies, steal cars, chop cars, CC fraud,

its not hard to make a easy G to pay the monthly car payment for a E46 M3 :)
