It won't be topping out at 100. You'll be at 205km/h at 6750rpm (redline) in 5th.

The stock 5spd diff is 2.93:1, if you're looking to put something in there try to look for anything from 3.15-3.38:1. I believe the auto diff is 3.91:1.

As for the transmission not being there and the ECU caring, I don't know. You could try disconnecting the tranny computer all together and see what happens. It sits in the same comparement as the ECU.

205 isn't fast enough?? :P The stock software cuts out at 206km/h anyway.

Ok, you're speedometer is off them, which is normal, the ECU cuts fuel at 206km/h, unless you have aftermarket software.

When I top out at 241km/h (GPS indicated) my speedo is buried.

i dunno its really wierd i can hit 210 and im still going up there not like the speedo is going and im not gaining speed u know

Yea, speedo's are insanely off, on my drive to Montreal, I watched my GPS say I'm at 130km/h and my speedo said 140.

if u want just the 5spd not really worried bout racing n stuff just get an open differential (2:93) i belive greek thang is selling one for a couple hundred

if i wana go performance (LSD) it will cost you

so say i go non lsd right ..so then in comparison to the performance i have now which will b better..my auto set up..or manual with a non lsd diff from a 328i

well LSD gets you more traction... thats it

once your rollin it really dosent do much (excpet round corners)

hmm..can a differential be in bad shape...risks in buying one or what

yes it can, the gears can be worn and chunks can break off cause it to bind,

u can sort of check if its ok by spinning the yolk and feeling for tight spots

yea i know 100 isnt bad..but this whole non slip and slip thing is making me think now...like will i loose more traction then i currently have..i just dont want it to perform less then it is now you know what i mean..and plus 100 is kinda cheap..good quality i dunno :huh?:

u wont lose any traction at all man. yr diff right now is not a lsd so dont worry about it. plus its much safer in winter not having a lsd

how so?

2 wheels driving provides more traction then 1 wheel in snow....

both wheels spinning gets the rear end a bit loose. i took my M out the other day and it got sideways when i ripped it.

:-( come on... ur converting ur car to manual.. what did you expect.. save for an lsd.. and you'll be happy.. whats the point of one wheel spining?

when properly driven 2 wheels is MUCH safter then 1 wheel spinning.. i mean com on cant anyone see the logic? 2 wheels driving the car will provide double the traction as 1 wheel driving

plus to add to this BMW even added LSD's to their cars with the winter packages

how much does a 96-99 M3 diff (i think 3.23) worth?

Go for the swap man. Buy the diff for $100, and then you have all the time in the world to hunt down an LSD, without rushing and overpaying. Then swap it in and sell the original diff you bought.

LSD is awesome for winter. I don't think I would have gotten through this winter without it. I do a lot of snowboarding, so lots of snow to drive through. Sure the LSD throws the tail a bit, but once you get used to it (and practice in parking lots) it becomes second nature. I can basically slide for 10-20m without flinching and remaining in full control while my buddy is shitting his pants. Of course it helps if you drive slow :D. But I haven't gotten stuck in deep snow or anything, because double the traction is a good thing.
