eyelids help

I just got the e30 eyelids and I was wondering if anybody had trouble putting them on. Mine seem as if I have to bend them in order for them to fit the contour of the grill. Should I install them before or after paint?

i would install before the paint, that way if u have to bend them no paint will tear off or whatver *par-t* *par-t*
