Hi Guys,

I have a 99 323i and the sunroof headliner has come off it's tracks. Has anyone had this happen to them and what was the fix? The dealership is telling me that they will need to replace the entire sunroof cassette, which I think is total BS. The cost? $1800 CDN with taxes and labour. I did find out that there is a sunroof headliner repair kit. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, who did you work (I'm looking for someone in the Greater Toronto Area to get this done).

Thanks in advance,

Deep

Just the sliding headliner panel is busted/stiff/off it's tracks?

You probably just need these then:

54 13 8 246 027 x2 - $7.84ea
54 13 8 246 025 x2 - $11.00ea

Numbers 16 and 17.

Open your sunroof all the way and then close the headliner panel. Look from the top and you'll see these sliding pieces. Is this what's causing the problem?

Yup - Those clips broke a while ago and now it won't slide properly.

Now if I could only find someone who could fix it a reasonable rate, I'd be really happy. *wiggle*

16 is held it with two screws - 17 just clips in. You can do it yourself.

The headliner panel is catching the sunroof so when I try to open it up, it just stops.

Can't seem to get the headliner out with the sunroof open... don't want to risk breaking it any further...

Idea's?

Allright, I was looking for the fix and finally found it. For the cost of those clips, I am willing to give it a shot. When it is done I will let you all know how it turned out.

So did you try it? Were you able to fix it?

This is what i heard, if your good at DIY's fixing the sunroof isn't to bad just labour intensive. The clips that need to be replaced only cost .30 cents from the dealership. Basically you buy the clips take out the sunroof, replace the broken parts and re-install. Its not easy at all, but I know someone that has done it and it sure beats $1800. If and when i do fix mine i'll do a write up and post it up. In the meantime i would do a search... Good luck. *th-up*

Let me know when you've done it. I'd rather pay someone like $75 and perhaps a case of beer? who's done it successfully to help me out then try to do it myself...

Anything beats $1800!!
