the new M3 is not getting a V8. They are staying with an I6. The V8 rumour was going around for a long time.

Golden,
Good source from Germany. They are going to enlarge the I6 to either 3.6 or 3.8 liters, it should pump out around 380Hp.

Did you know the I6 in the M3 is cast iron?

Did you know the S54 Iron engine is only about 60 lbs. less than the previous gen M5 aluminum V8?

It only makes sense that BMW go with a V8 in the M3.

It's basically the same engine as the new M5, with two less cylinders, making int a 4.0L. Keeps R&D and manufacturing costs down.

It would be cheaper to do that, than to manufacture two totally different engines.

no matter what type of engine they are putting into the M3, i am sure M version of the 1-series will get an I6 for sure. so at least we don't have to worry about no I6 in M's line up
