It cost me $60 USD to get 2 laser cut keys made for a 95 M3 from the dealer. Took like 3-4 days to come in after I ordered.

When I went they said they would need to keep my key for at least a day.
Why cant they do it by the VIN #??

i broke my key a couple months back for my e30. i went to Marnello BMW in Woodbridge and they charged me $75 for one of those keys w/ built in flash light. i think for just a regular key it was $40 or $50. oh and they require your ownership and vin

About 2 years ago I paid $25 for my E30. You guys in the GTA should call some of the dealerships out of the GTA for prices. May be a PITA to drive but sounds like you could save alot of money.

Question: if you loose all your keys can they still make a key. Do they require the orignal key or do they have it stored on some database. BTW i drive 92 735il

I actually called Peformance BMW in St. Catharines and they want $61+tx for an E36 key.

Yes they can still make keys. You do have to prove that it is your car with and ownership slip and your drivers licence.

BMW keys are expensive but they are really durable.

Some people do get keys with just the vin, that's how people steal your car. And that's why you should always cover your VIN.

If his car is an E46 it'll cost $400 from the dealer. They need to laser cut the key, then program it to your codes so that the lock/unlock/trunk button works.

I was amazed when I worked at VW, people just brught in their VIN and had keys made. Again, they do have to programed to the car, not sure though about e36's?

$400?? You sure? The new Mercedes keys are only $260. Hard to see BMW costing so much more!
