OK, I have seen many post about cold starts, and it is a given, e46 has problems starting in the cold, however I experienced something that has not been discussed. Tonight, after my car had been sitting in -1 celcius (30 degrees), I tried starting the car and it would not start. After turning the ignition a couple of times it still did not start. I finally got fed-up and I turned the key until the engine began to turn over and it eventually started. It tumbled approximately 10 times, each time the engine would turn faster, before starting. I Immediately turned the car off, and tried it again. I had to do the same thing, however, it only took about 5 tumbles before starting. Once it started the second time, I turned the car off, and started again, however on the third start, it was perfect. The car ran smoothly, no problems after. Has anyone experienced this strange behaviour? Can you explain what may have caused this? Moisture? bad gas filter? I have had this car for 5 years now (2000 323i purchased in oct. 99), just wondering if I should get rid of it now. I was waiting for the new 3 series.

Thank you, your posts has been most helpful in the past.

This message was posted on e46fanatics, and there were a lot of responses recommending "HEET" a gas-line antifreeze and water remover. I intend to try this solution, and will post my findings. You can get "HEET" at Canadian Tire. Their website:

Hope this post is helpful.

In early Oct. I had an oil change at the dealer (I did not ask about summer grade oil, I assumed they would know what's best. I do know they used Synth. )

M52TU's use 5W-30 Synthetic all year, no grade changing.
