Hi there, I have too often bought a car, find the forums after and start learning all kinds of things about that car. Well this morning I totalled my mint condition 94 GTP (Hit a 200+lb DEER) and been telling the wife for awhile that next would be a BMW. This would be my daily driver...I am not concerned so much on age/mileage but more so a car that was loved and well taken care of. I am very maticulous and take very good care of my vehicles. However always been a GM Man, I know nothing about BMW's...a fellow car guy from work just bought a 88 - 525, 1 owner, w/140KM for $6K so I guess it is possible..
Q: What series are good/bad and who has what available?

Any input appreciated....

Thanks guys....

Hello, I happen to be selling my 1993 BMW 318is and I'm asking 7000$ for it certified and e-tested. It is a 5 speed manual, a real looker with its M3 body kit and brilliant red color and will be a perfect daily driver that is cheap on gas as well ( 4 cylinder 1.8 liters ). You can see my For Sale thread posted a week ago here : http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42023 , Also, for more pictures you can check out http://www3.sympatico.ca/adelb/ .

You can email me at adelb@sympatico.ca if interested. Good luck !

Thanks! Did look at that one..
A detail I had forgotten to put in is that I need to get an automatic...ya ya..I know...the wife dammit!! Tried to teach her 6 years ago on my taurus SHO but that did not go over well...(almost got divorced over that! *mumble* )
In the auto-trader I see a lot of 6-8K early 90's 525's, starting to lean in that direction.

Forget the 525 pick up a 535. Then you'll be able to show your buddies 525 up :D Too bad about the auto though. I've had my 90 535 for a while now and love it. The motor is a M30 and they are very solid motors i beet mine up all day and have never had any trouble. Can't coment on the 525 to much but i know they are slower than a 535 especially in auto. Heres what the e34 can look like, (hope you don't mind Gamite, BTW paint those wheels already I love it) classic design in my opinion and fit your budget.

Yes, Gamite has a rare disease called Imafraidtotrysomethingnewanitis so he will nevar pa!nt his precious Hamanns.

And whenever he speaks of his rims, he sounds a LOT like Sméagol with HIS precious:

I dont know it it is good idea to buy early e34 cuz of expensive suspension repairs and ect....late e34 would be save IMO....There s one nice 95 530i with140k in trader but damn 1 owner and he wants $14 000....

The 530i cost more in maintenance than the 535i for the same power.
I would go 535i anyday over the 530i or even the 540i.

You need to know if you want a 5 or a 3 then you can see what you can afford and see if you want a car without any problems or one with some work to do.

Hey guys!! Bought one tonight!! Think I got a hell of a deal!!
1990 BMW 535I, black w/tan interior, no rips or rust. 170,000KM, got it for $5300 cert and e-tested...so I think I made off like a bandit, it has been stored winters and everything works, even the A/C was converted to R134a last year!! Pick it up on Saturday...can't wait!!!
Now to start educating myself on the BMW!! Whoo Hooo, looks like I am around to stay guys!! *th-up*

Great find... is it a 5 speed? (one of the rare ones?).
Ok the 535i is know to blow headgasket, so make sure that you change the coolant every two years with BMW coolant only.

And make sure that the temperature gauge doesn't go pass 1/2 way... At the 1st sign of overheating, take care of it ASAP.
At this mileage if the shocks had not been changed they will be cooked, along with the suspension parts on the front end and the subframe bushings will be on their way...
I love these cars.
