just wondering... first i always prevered the manual stick.. but the SMG system in the CSL is soo great... but a lot of people still want a manual..

so what's it gonna be ?

just remember the BMW SMG II changes gears in 80 milliseconds, the best Ferrari (the Enzo) does it in 150 milliseconds...

^ you can... that's the whole point of SMG.. Semi-Manual-Gearbox...

with the stick you can change gears.. up and down...or u can use the flippers on the steering wheel :)

SMG all the way, when i test drove M3 SMG I was ready to go home with it.... Didn't have money tho.... I think it's kind of break through, and it's for that lazy people that cannot or dont want to shift and press clutch.... Plus SMG has less errors or misshifting ETC....

For M cars it is Sequential M Gearbox
for non-M cars it is Sequential Manual Gearbox.

actually there was a E36 way back and i think it was on cardomain that retro fitted a smg tranny. but a smg is manual, there is a cluth it is just activated by a computer rather than a person, no slushbox

i think people better get used to SMG, in the future, there will probaly be no choice with future M cars.. all SMG.

SMG sucks unless your using it on a track. Driven paddle shiftsit many times, from a 360 ferrari to an SMG M3. Both are shit unless on a track. I like to 'feel' the car w/ a manual shifter, not a computer...

ive driven a 645ci cabriolet smg, it was cool because it blipped the gas on downshifts, but you still don't have a clutch...

you can't launch above 1800 RPM with SMG.

That's why SMG M3s have low 1/4 mile compared to manual.

Given the choice, I'd go right back to SMG.

Most people that knock SMG have never driven it.
Most people that have used it for a while, appreciate the technology.
Take a hint.

BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari, etc. are all using SMG now, more will follow over the next few years.
You will see manual's go the way of the Do-Do in any self-respecting sports-car. Get used to it.

Yes you can.

In 'Launch Control mode', it's programed at that RPM.

If you choose the 'Burnout Mode', you can launch it at whatever rev you want. I've done it myself.

I would go with a SMG just because it looks cute.
