I wish I can store my car away, I'm looking for a beater as we speak, how do you guys go about insurance? if I put the 540 away I still have to pay inurance? that's $500 a month for me not driving a car

Not all insurance companies do that these days!!! Last insurance comp. that gave me a reasonable quote for the bimmer (before i sold it), did not allow fire/theft...so if you dont drive it, it was 20-$30 cheaper/monthe for the winter...which is a joke based on $250...

Why can't you switch insurance between 2 cars? Take one off and put the othere one on...

I'm glad I live in the south. I can drive my car anytime of the year.

There was thread about this last fall.

Winter Storage (http://www.maxbimmer.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21710)

I usually just suspend the insurance and keep fire and theft, then activate the winter beater. Do not cancel insurance, because when you want it back in the spring, they will treat it as a new account and possibly pay more.

November 1st to May 1st. It's a long time but I don't like to bring it out earlier due to the salt and other crap on the roads; you need a couple good rains after the snows melted to get the roads good.

A friend of mine has done this trick and i think i'm going to do it this winter...
He has a 330 and a beater (pickup truck). He registered the beater as his primary vehicle and the 330 as his weekend / secondary car. His insurance rates are about 100 a month cheeper for both cars than what he was paying for the bmw alone.

Yes, this is technically insurance fraud and i'm not sure how the insurance companies operate up there in canada but that's just something for you to think about. I figure if i drive the beater 4 days out of the week and the bmw 3 days then that still makes it my 2ndary car so it's only quasi-fraud.

Just wonder what the insurance is like for others. I called my company asked for a quote on a 95 318i, she quoted $1475 ayr. I think the 325 for the same yr was like $1600 or something near to that.

Most likely I'll be storing my car November 1st as well. It will be out of storage by the second week of May..

Went to my insurance office 2 days ago, I asked what should I do about insurance if I wont drive my car.
Agent said, that I could get fire and theft insurance which is 40 bucks a month on my car. And thats its a no problem, i just call them when i want it.
