How long does it take and how much should it cost(for labour) to replace a clutch on a 540(e39)?

Have you checked the dealer...?

Last time I was there, labour and material $760 approx...

My mechanic said he can not match that price in any way...

BMW clutch kit is $285CDN at www.ultimatebmwparts.com and labour is supposed to be 4hrs worth, but skilled bmw mechanics can do it in 2hrs. The bitch thing about it is that the complete exhaust system needs to be removed to drop the tranny.

Sorry Zim I don't but you can eventually meet up with Quack and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to let you hear it. (He's buying it off me. I'm puting my car back to stock as I am preparing to sell it in spring, eagerly awaiting something slightly better)

I'm collecting the money as we speak Bill, but after I get it I'm going to wait until after the winter season to install it, but you never know

Bill, do I see an M5, or maybe a 2001 540i w/ MTechnic package in the near future?

It's sitting on my parts shelf in my garage as we speak. I might take the filter out and give it a good cleaning for you within the next couple of weeks.

My car is alot quieter now and almost feels eerie without the roar coming from the engine bay. I did a headlight swap with a guy named Jun from TO last summer. We met out in Alexandria, ON. He has nice 19" RD rims on his 540. I passed him on the route towards the highway and he immediately called me and said he almost creamed his pants.

I'm sure Quack will love it. I do recommend though you get some software along with this upgrade. Software w/ this CAI should be good for 15whp.

Hmmm I don't see how going to a 2001 540 would be better as I am currently putting down more hp in stock form than most 2001's so I guess its probably the other option. We will just have to wait and see. Maybe I'll just hold on to the 540 another year, but the plan is to get M'd...
