In an interview with german "AutoBild test&tuning", M Division chief confirmed the official performance Data:

0-100: 4,7 sec

0-200: 14,4 sec

top sped: 330,0 km/h

Nurburgring lap time was slightly under 7:55 min

It's one second faster than the 360 CS

And only one second slower than the GT3 :D

They plan to sell at least 5000 M5s a year. Brunke wants to build a new supersports car, an extreme lightweight construction.

That's pretty fricken amazing if the M5 is keeping up with likes of those.

BMW knows of their faulty m42 head gasket.... it eventually goes on all M42's.. either starts dripping then goes, or goes all at once. Mine started leaking drip drip drip... dropped in some coolant leak sealer from crappy tire.. and it stopped for now... only a matter of time though. their new gaskets are made of a new material which does not deteoriate...

from the bmwlemon site:
Gasket problem - Owner sells BMW
Gasket 2 times in 3 months - Bmw would not respond
Gasket Problem owner want a Mailing List - See Link above
318i M42 Engine Gasket problems - Law Suite against BMW for Engine Gasket problem
Another 318i Gasket problem - 1993 BMW 318 and BMW still does nothing?
Yet Another 318i Gasket problem - This guy has proof and is thinking of suing
What another 318 Gasket problem? - This is the 4th one in 6 months!!

0-100 is 4.7sec? that's slower than the E55, with all that power I thought it could do better

u kno what? when you get below 5 seconds. Everything gets iffy.. does anyone know the actual time of the E39 M5 or E46 M3? Ive seen ranges from 4.8 to 5.2 on both cars.

I think the only way we'll know for sure is when the magazines do comparissons between the E55 and M5. and, oh yes, they will compare.

also, I think u are missing the larger picture. Track time.

But remember BMW always is very conservative with the times they estimate. E46 M3 I think they say 5.2, while its closer to 4.7-4.8? so if they estimate 4.7 it is probably capable of 4.4 or so. Also 0-100km/h is different than 0-60mph which we are used to dealing with. 330km/h, wow thats 205mph.

MB is also very conservative with their times as well, MB advertises the E55 0-60 in 4.5sec, but it has already been tested hundreds of times averaging 4.2sec 0-60

I highly doubt the MB would keep up anywhere near the new M5 on the track... Straight line it may be a little faster... but the M5 is a totally new beast all together...

I mean come one... the MB has a regular plain jane slushbox automatic, where as the M5 was a freeking 7 speed SMG! That right there should tell you the ///M is more serious about being an all out performer then the MB.

MB lately has only been focusing on large HP & torque numbers... Which I guess in places like North America is probably more appealing then the M5's lap times keeping up to race tuned supercars like the 360 CS and GT3.

Two different worlds... but the buyers will be wating two different things.

///M5 all the way *th-up*
