What year did the E46 go with the OBD II slot. I have the round one as my car is 1999 323i. Is there an adapter or something so I can read the codes with an OBD II code reader?

Look under the dash on the driver's side, you should see a cover marked OBD-II.

I'll have to open that up for you when you need your car flashed.

Some cars have both connectors.

is it a rectangular connection? Then it's OBD-II. I couldn't remember the exact marking on it.
