View Full Version : Closing sunroom using key

Question:

I can close all of my windows by holding the key in the locked position, but isn't the sunroof supposed to close with all of the windows? At least that's what the manual says... but it doesn't work.

If anybody knows... perhaps there is a trick for closing the sunroof?

Thx! *th-up*

ok I just tried that on my car and it works. It is pretty fun, but damn you have to have a lot of patience.

My sunroof is closing too, it starts closing right after all windows are closed, then wait a second or two and it starts closging

Which remote do you have? Is it the factory BMW remote? I'll have to try that out. Yeah, SickFingas is right. It does test your patience a little. Wish it would do the opposite and open your windows too......especially in this weather!

When I installed my alarm I wired one of the buttons to lock the car and close the windows/sunroof.

I tried it on both my dad's '94 cars and neither of them close the sunroof... only the windows. Maciek's '97 328is closes the sunroof.?? I also don't understand.

Sickfinga is right, i also have a 97 328is and i use this function all the time when i forget to shut my sunroof. it will close all the windows first, then the sunroof will close right after it.

Are you saying that the earlier M3's don't have that function Randy? Vlad's seems to work but his is a 97'. Are you holding the key a few seconds after the windows are all up?? Interesting. My 98 works all the time.

I tried the 325is holding the key for more than 5 sec after the window shut and nothing... I didn't hold the key that long for the M3 though.... I'll try it again this week if my dad swings by my work.

i'm guessing this wont work on a '93 e36 huh?
if not, i think i'm going to change all my switches to one-touch ones.

dj, yeah I don't think it works on a 93... I had a 92 325i & it didn't work...

Don't even bother since the "one-touch" feature for windows/sunroof is done through the ECU programming.

Hehe, I was waiting in the car for my parents that other day
and I spotted an E39 530i owner.
Hmm, apparently he left his windows open when he stepped out of the car.
He tried using the remote, but no sucess.
then in my mind i was yelling, "Stick the key into the keyhole of the door and hold it in the lock position dammit!"

But since he did not have the knowledge to know the tricks european cars can do (i.e. closing windows + sunroof w/key) he wasted his time going back into the car and closing all the windows and sunroof. hehe

I really wanted to walk up to him and show him the trick, but he'd probably think I'm trying to mug him.

I can close the windows only with the key on my 94. I checked the owners manual and it says the sunroof closing is an option but the window closing is standard equipment. Wish the sunroof would close too!!!

are you sure?
i've seen step by step guides on how to do it
as well as aftermarket kits
if anything i want to add one touch buttons to all 4 of my windows
only my drivers side has it.

This is what I know for sure:

The one-touch switch is just a switch with 4 positions, it has no electronics in it, and is only responsible for sending a signal to the ECU.

In terms of aftermarket support, Autoloc I believe makes modules that could be wired to enable one-touch feature.

Oh mine, the sunroof does close but only after the windows are closed, and what sucks more is having to sit there and wait for them to close with the key in the door instead of them going up all the way automatically.

Might as well stay in the car and do it yourself.
