I have my m10 out and all the parts for my m50, except the diff.

The m10 and m50 have close to the same redline so I will not have to change the little key in the back of the tch, right?

also the Project Orca cd and Diwight at ZA said any five speed 325, e30 or e36, will work and that my 84 318i would nt work After getting the e36 325 shaft and removing mine they are identical!! I mean exact length, and of course the same flanges! That has pissed me off at first but then again I have yet to install the engine/trans and diff, so I may eat my words.

I know the e30 m30 one works but I cannot get a hold of one locally.

Preformance suggestions?

Tough install. i gave up the m20 in my 318i. I had all the parts too. it just came down to wiring. The square C101 plug is harder to do than the round. There is a lack of info. I have some mechanical info if you need it. Tons of stuff by trial and error.

sorry about the typo.

I have the m10 318i and am putting the m50 of the e36 325 in as well as the m50 trans. Others have said the e30 m30 drivehsaft will work perfectly, but I cannot get my hands on one.

go to AKG motor sport and get their pin charts, the ones for the early 325 is the same as the 318. there are only 8 wires to worry about and I could email you my wiring after I am done, I say after I am done because it seems to easy!

The m20 is THAT difficult to install?

I used an M10 318is driveshaft when I swapped the E36 tranny. Since the newer tranny is smaller than the Getrag260, I needed a longer shaft. You should be able to use your stock shaft. Also, keep in mind each shaft has several inches of adjustability because of the splines.

If you need any parts from an 89 325i contact me. I got the trans, driveshaft, differential, disc brakes. I'm in GA too.

Sorry to bump this one, but this is a topic that is going to be coming my way soon enough as I'll be investigating swap options for my 318...

Can someone direct me as to what is a good balance of cost vs performance?

I read that article about the guy who put the ls1 into his 88....didn't mention much about pains and regrets, but I wanted to see if anyone here did anything that was no regrets, and didn't break the bank doing so..

Staying NA, FI is not an option...

Thanks a lot in advance...
