I just go by when it looks dirty, usually clean it when I do an oil change, but then again, I drive at the cottage a lot with dusty roads, so it does get dirty fairly quick.

I have a K&N in the Gruppe M. Once a year, usually after winter. Your not suppose to wash them that often.

^^ I've heard the same. There is no need to wash it more than that unless you go mudding on weekends.
*also, remember to spray it with the oil after you've clean it!

cleaning it often does, actually. A little dirt on it actually makes is work better from what I have heard and read in numerous articles. It helps get better filtration.
