Well guys here is the dilemma I've been thinking about for the last while...

My e30 is due for a paint job and also needs some rust fixed up, the engine hit 275,000km still runs well, but won't last forever...do you guys think I should just cut my losses and get a newer e36, or keep the e30 and spend the money to fix her up? Now keep in mind I love my e30 but I am wondering whats the point I should stop dropping money on it.

I really would like to hear from guys that have e36's as to what they think of them etc. and especially anyone that has traded in their e30 for an e36...was it worth it and all that?...Thanks
:)

Hey man, I was recently faced with the same dilemma. 88 325i which didn't need a whole lot but it would have cost me some bucks. I decided to go for the E36 ...hold out for EXACTLY what you want, colour, options....km's (important). I waited it out for 9 months, the E30 held out perfectly for that time and is actually still running great without a cent put into it, but ended up with an E36 with exactly everything I wanted in it. Just make sure you get all the service records and everything with it. Or you could always hold out for a year, suffer driving it around in not so great condition and go for an E46 or E36 M3 the next year (it'll be well worth the wait) Good Luck

come on adam... nothing can beat an e30 for popularity among the bimmer enthusiasts... e30's are classic... keep it... u won't regret it... my bro's bimmer has alot more km's on the engine than urs... it'll last a little more longer... the baby will keep goin...

Have you driven an E36? If you have and still want one, all the power to you.

Don't get me wrong, I love my e30 and if I could I would keep both. And I have driven an e36, but it was a 318i, so I didn't nessesairly get the full effect. Its just getting to that point where after putting on a $3000 paint job, more mods, and all that, and then the engine goes and I will then have to put money into a rebuild...it bassically comes down to where do I stop? should I just throw in the towel and start fresh with an e36....?

edit: Oh and Its seems to be blowing a bit of smoke on wide open throttle which is kinda scarring me, cuz either the valve guides are going, or the rings need replacing...

stop wasting money....get something newer....

the e30's are bullit proof....but rust is like cancer....

edit.. unless you have the time or money to strip it down BARE and rebuild it with new paint...

E30s are bricks, sorry to say, time to upgrade, you can't stay in the 80's forever

even e36's are getting/looking dated. with the 3-series redesign e36 is now 2 generations back... e30's are 3 gen's back! .. think about that.

the other way to look at it is that e30 parts are getting easier to come by.. and repairs will be cheaper... but there will be more.

take some e36's out for a boot and see how you like it before you decide. that's what it comes down to.. if you enjoy driving it/

Over-all, stock vs. stock i think the e36 is nicer looking than the e30. BUT, i prefer my e30 10X more than e36's...even ones that have been done up. Maybe i am a little biassed:D

And i personally like 4 door e30's/e36's much more than the coupes.

Most cars (modified/customized) are money pits...WHO CARES:D

Well, I guess the best thing to do is to take one out for a test drive, and see how it feels.

I think the worst thing is if I spend all the money on the e30, I'm not gonna want to drive it in winter anymore..I already hate driving it in winter, but this would just make it worse.:(
