I have a quick question for anyone who has a new e46 m3. How long did u give the car before giving it past 5500rpm ?
Did u follow the break-in procedure down to a T ?
Is the car running smoother now that you have broken it in ?
How many sets of rear tires have you gone through ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there's too many people here on Max that can answer those questions for you Jordan:( . IMO you should follow the manufacturers recommendations because of the tight tolerances in the S54 motor.... let it break in properly and FOR HEAVENS SAKE change the oil at 1000km!!!! (despite what the dealer says). Have fun driving around in that mint car you bastard.*love*

Just follow the instructions on the sticker on your windshield. With all the engine problems people were having with the M3, you BETTER follow the break in procedures! =)

I've already broken the 170 km/h max speed for break-in by accident. I hit 190 km/h in 5th by accident while cutting through traffic. I don't think it matters much though.

I haven't gone over 5000 rpm yet. I've only driven 400 kms though.

I have had my car since monday and i have over 600 km :P
I cant wait to break it in ! I hit 170km.h and i took it to 6800rpm on one shift. I talked to the dealer and he said after 500 km you can open it up once and a while. He said that wouldnt hurt it .:D
I recored the conversation just "incase" Friday night @ krispy kreme !?!?!? What time ? PM me with the details.

Jordan,

I woudn't listen to a salesman.... they know the least of everyone. I don't recommend revving it over 5500 for the first 1000K... especially with that metal filing contaminated oil. Be sure to change it soon! -- Very important.

I might be able to meet you guys at KK Friday night, but I'm leaving Sat morning at 5am for Chicago (Hot Import Nights) for the rest of the long weekend. Thanks anyways for the invite.
