The hot set up is the Z4 3.0 shifter. Pretty cheap from the dealer and very short throws. The shifter inself is pretty short too.

Yes it will but you will need to do some bending.

This thing rocks but it is very notchy

how much difference will it make on the gear changes

Note that my rod required no bending whatsoever, it just dropped right in. It seems some have to bend it, some don't.

The length of shifts is roughly half of what is used to be on my car.

i think he is using factory bimmer stuff, so the dealer. about how much is it? and will the bushings wear out like the original ones do? half as much means more

fun that is.

benduing will determine if you have a harmonic balancer on your car or not. its a metal ring around the guibo.

if your car has harmonic balancer on the guibo you will need to bend.

my stuff comes in on monday!!! when you say that the shifter feels notchy, does that mean that it kind of sticks that you have to put some strain into moving it? eleaborate for me, please. anyway this is to cheapest why of shortening the throw i have found, i'll let ya'll know when i install it.

Yea,
instead of glideing into every gear buttery smooth
you kind-of have to put alittle bit more muscle into it.

So it glides out of 1st then stops inbetween gears then you muscle it into 2nd.. :) "notchy"

You get used to it :D

I dunno, I still don't need anything more than wrist effort, it just drops into gear. Any yes the shifts are that short, you can complete one without ever moving your arm. :)

So, I still haven't been able to discern which models have a harmonic blancer (require bending). Anyone have a list?

just look a the driveshaft coming out of the transmission. if your flex disk is surrounded by a big metal sheild ring you will see it, then you'll need to bend it. i am assuming that it is not much, i have it and it looks like i will just have to slightly move it. look on uuc web site they have directions for bending theirs and i would assume it is similar to that.

To any of you that've taken it out:

How much does the balencer wiegh?
It's off topic but I've read that people have taken it out to do
the M shifter upgrade with no problems, no vibration at all and depending on weight, you can get a nice performence gain out of it.

^^^i left it in, but damn this thing is sweet, anyone who has not done this is missing out on what it is really like to drive a bmw. this is the exact shifter these car should come with. i got mine a little cheaper then the prices i quoted earlier, but worth every penny. no matter what i recomend this to everyone. go do it. hurry faster, leave right now. it is cheap. come on stop reading the post, it makes your car feel five times faster, it make s it hard to drive slow. still here, get going.

i suggest the www.bavauto.com shift kit, 1/2 the shift throws, and also tightens up all the play while in gear as well

I welded ~12mm long 10mm diameter round bar to my shifter. And other end is cutted about same 12mm.

I understand that most 6 cylinder E30 doesn't have the balancer...

The 4 cylinder e30 has the balancer... Like my car.. As for my car, I fitted an adapter which extended 1 inch and the throw is much shorter now...
