View Full Version : Need Engine for my 89 525i Bmw

Well my engine on my 89 525i went to hell and i need one as soon as possible can anyone help me. Does anyone know where i can get a used one in good condition and price. Also does it have to be the same angine like 525 for 525 or can i put a 535 or 540 engine in my 525 body..

you can put 535 (M30) or 540, (M60)

If you can find a good M60, I'd get that, there are a lot more things you can do to the V8. Including a 6spd tranny.

You can also go as far as the new 540 engine (M62) That would be an excellent mod.

Also what is the 525 engine called (M?what)
like 535 is m30, 540 is m60

there were two 525 engines, the early one, which I think is yours, was called M20. The newer ones were called M50

if you dont want to stuff a V8 in there, you can also drop any E36 motor (325, 328, M3)

Ok but do any of you guys know where i can find the engine or these angines, any scrap yards or places that sells Bmw stuff. Its hard finding it. :D

How much do u want for the Engine and would i have to change the computer and the other electrical parts if i put that engine in
also how many k/m does the engine have

In all honesty, unless you are going to suprecharge that motor, don't get another 2.5L, Upgrade to a 3.5 or 4.0. It will be well worth it, the E34 is too heavy for anything under 3 Liters.

I also agree with gamite. Look for a nice V8 or V12 for your car, unless you plan on spending an extra $5000 on forced induction for the M50 engine to bring it up to speed for your car's weight.
You could also drop a Supra TT engine in the car as well like I plan to down the road. It'll fit, and they're not expensive engines.

I'm selling it with the computer/harness, but you need an oil pan (E36 is different). It has 130K and i'm asking $1100.
