When a server is changed over, there is alot of tweaking we have to do to it in order for it to be 100% reliable at all times. Since maxbimmer is a high-traffic website, we need to make sure that it can handle traffic at all rates. This is what we're currently trying to get. Thanks for your patience guys.

Having a backup meet place is an excellent suggestion.

DTMPower was also down. Are they related to MAXBimmer in anyway? E46Toronto has been shutdown recently by the Admininstrator and replaced by Tuningemotion.com because he sold his E46 and got a Porsche.

I recommend to meet on E46Fanatics.com, which haven't been down for several years - extremely stable. I realize Maxbimmer members are from all over the world but since large portion from Canada, how about meeting under section
"E46Fanatics > E46 BMW > Events / Regional > Canada
Que, Ont, NB, NS, Nfld, PEI"
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=60

This way we would not be interfering with regular traffic which may not be interested to non-E46 people.

Bliss,

That's understandable. But if it wasn't an emergency and something which was planned and scheduled to be tweaked, it would help out Maxbimmer users with a little of notice - posted in red under Forums section (i.e., a day or two of advance warning) and somekind of indication how long it will be down (24, 48 or 72 hours).

I know there is generic 2-3 lines notice on the main page that the server may be down, but that's been there for a while. And like the first post of this thread said, people probably thought it was all behind us.

I can handle the server downtime but I go into panic-mode thinking it's my computer... glad it's not just me.

Most of you e30 guys are perfectly welcome on R3V. Those of you that aren't should know who you are ;)

R3V has had 99.5% uptime since it was launched.

haha, yeah i wish it was that easy. :)

alexm520, When the server goes down, it means that the # i set it at was too low or too high, this is why tweaking is a little difficult, and even harder to let you know when the server will go down, so it's basically trial and error. We have extremely high flow traffic, and in the 3 years maxbimmer has been running, it has been consistant, and up 99.9% of the time(if stats is where we're getting into:D ). Since max is the largest Canadian bmw community, this is the 3rd time we needed a server upgrade, and once the tweaking is done, it's smooth sailing from there. It's just a side effect to server changes.*mumble*
