View Full Version : F_ckin' tire blew out on me last night.

I was driving home last night, early round 5am, and my car starts to rumble, and my steering tilts to one side.. first thing that hits my mind: "F_ck, tire blew"

So, I get out of the car, and immediately, I smell burning rubber, this dun sound like a normal blow out.

So I touch the tire, and its burning hot. I eventually pull it out.. and this is how it looks...

Does this look normal to you??? You guys think I should email Kumho? They're Kumho 712's, I will never buy these tires again. (although I might buy 1 to replace the blown one, but after that, never again)

so your try to say , the tire just blew on its own while u were driving , must of been some debris of the road , or either some tire failure that made the tire collapse !*thmbsdwn*

No. It's the piece of shit tire. This looks exactly like 3 others I've seen (not in person, 'net). Perfectly good tire, some a few months old, delaminates and just tears itself apart. In most cases, like you - the sidewall tears off the tread. I think I remember one guy said he got a new tire from Kumho... but do you really want it? Try to find yourself a good deal on some Toyo T1S!!!

Dude! KUMHO's are like the 2nd cheapest/shittiest tires out on the market (next to MotoMaster) ...
I have a pair of them on the front of the mazda... Seems to be fine right now, but for the Gamitemobile I think you can put out a few extra $$$ no? *no-no*

Michelin's? Dunlop? those aren't TOO expensive... Maybe even some used Pirelli's???http://www.tirestires.com:2280/tires/index2.html

Hey gamite... I work for a tire place that shit happens all the time especially with thin walls, What I can tell you about Kumho, Is that they are very good with road hazzard, meaning your getting a tire free so dont go buy a new one, somthing as little as a pot hole at hiway speed would cause that I see this day in and day out, all you have to do is take it where you bought it and say wheres my new ****ing tire, just express anger and should be done right away, they look new so you should have a problem, i am not sure about kumho but some companies may charge you for the amount of wear that you have used, and charge you accordingly,

Obviously Adam as no ****ing clue what hes talking about. Yes you can buy shit kumhos, but you can buy shit michellins as well, Kumho, Is in my opinion a great tire company, Every tire has these problems but if you buy shit tires like on the mazda,or camry or whatever you have, you probably didnt pay that much for them, 50-80 a tire, Gamite however has nice rubber meaning he prolly payed about 150-175 a tire(with no deal) I dont know which tire that is so my prices may be off but you get the point

Cheap tires will do that. The 245/35/20 Nitto's on the Crazy Mexican's GS400 did the same thing a month ago.

This is why you don't purchase bargain rubber people! Just be happy you're safe and unharmed man, that could have been catastrophic...

EuroSpectacle
06-25-2004, 12:41 PM
And my rebuttle to that, Is michellin's one of the highest priced tires on the market, they blow, pirellis blow, toyo's blow, nitto's blow bfg's blow, federals blow, every tire blows regardless of price, its a tire its rubber, rubber isnt invincible just becuase you pay a little bit more. and when i said blow imeant blow up not as in they are shit. Its to be expected. It shouldnt happen how it does but do you ever expect your tire to blow? ever? no it happens shit happens

i had 712's on my car last summer and had no problems at all (except for a little road noise) you could have hit a peice of metal on the road or something.. same thing happened to me in my dads van on wed nite, 6" gash on the inside tire wall.

I got warranty on the tires, but I was charged the ammount of usage of the tire. :(

So, I have 1 new tire. and a small hole in my pocket.

I disagree. Kumho is still cheap shit. Just on the upper end of cheap shit. Between me and 2 other E34 owners we went through 4 sets of 712's and 3 had at least one wheel that was out of round. Makes you wonder if you have a bad wheel bearing, and drive you crazy looking for a source of vibration. One guy switched to Toyos and never had a problem with them. Same with Michelin. I have never heard a T1S or Pilot sport delaminate. I've seen 3 712's and I don't look for them, this is my acquaintances.

So, sorry, you get what you pay for.

Damn that sucks Gamite*thmbsdwn*
It could have been alot worse. My buddy had a blow out doing 140km/hr . The rim was all f**ked and so was his alignment.

Before the Pilot Sports I had Kumhos too.
Good tires..but only lasted me 1 season:(

i was just wondering if somebody slice your tire half deep and causes to blow .... this the job for FCI .....

06-26-2004, 03:24 AM
Whow, I'm surprised it actually did that. Perhaps a manufacturer defect??

Anyways I've had my Kumho's 712s for the second season already. I have about just under 10,000kms on them and I've done some highspeed runs, 220s, with the Volvo and they were solid. I auto-x'ed with them a few times and they're still solid. I'm starting to notice that they're a tad bit louder than when they were brand new.

OMG that is the best damn thing I have heard from someone off this board in a long time! Seriously!

A tire is a tire...and if you hit something or get a defective tire there is nothing you can do about it. He got the tire warranted so what's the big deal?!?! I can see it being a big deal if they didn't.
*no-no*

I have had cheaper 13" Hankook Ventus tires on my '73 2002 and had no problems. So blah!
:P

06-26-2004, 07:11 AM
Can't you just put a plug in that, or patch it?:D

And a lot of tires are noisy, not just the cheap ones. My old Pirelli P7000 were super loud from 90-130km/h, I could swear it was a wheel bearing. My current Yoko ES100's are getting pretty noisy too (not as bad as the Pirelli's) now that they're worn. But they make noise from 10-80km/h, and they sound like wheel bearing, or a worn dragging brake pad.

I've also heard some pretty noisy Michelin Pilot Sports and Yokohama AVS Sport (high end tires).

I have enough of experiance with tires... I worked at Second Time Around Tires Sales for 2 months during the summer a few years back... we sold Kumho tires there too... very cheap and very unreliable. Most of their tires aren't tested/guaranteed over 180km/h. I have a pair on the front of the mazda... so far no problems...

Kumho's are like Hyundai's... earning a reputation.. but still have a long way to go.

SickFinga

Kumhos are cheap and they are shit.

I currently have them on my car and they never comming back.

And yes, all tire brand got shitty tires on their lineup.
For the price of Kumho Ecsta 712 you will definitly get a worse tire from "big boys" but if you are willing to pay, you will get a way better tire.

P.S. Im currently looking for two 245/40/17 Toyo Proxies T1-S, anyone got hookups?

06-27-2004, 10:05 PM
All I can say is that almost every review I've read/heard of the Kumho MX's and the Kumho Victoracers are that they're awesome. I'm pretty sure you get what pay for. If you buy cheap Michelins, you will get crappy performance. You go to a high end tire, you get more performance. The Kumho Ecsta 712 isn't a high end tire.

Needless to say my next tires will be Kumho MX's.

I have Kumho Escta HP4s and so far they are great. I paid 50 per tire and Kauffman tire mounts, balances and road hazard for free. I have yet have any complaints about mine.

They are a soft non adhesive tire h rated and grip great and have yet to wear much. They are supposed to be 50000 mile tires, but the way I drive they are probably gonna be 30000 or 20000. When I had them rotated the rears were significatly more worn(relatively).

I would just talk to the tire shop or directly to kumho. Considering that the size tire needed for nice wheels like yours are not gonna be on a factory Huandai, Kuhmo has probably already considered that their tires are going on some expensive wheels adn the customer would like some protection.
