View Full Version : Is It Worth It?

I want to purchase this 1999 328i that I have seen; it has 74,500km, heated sports seats, 5sp man, sunroof, 17" rims with new tires, cd changer. -see pic

These problems showed up on the pre-purchase inspection by CAA:

1. Exhaust leak at front hanger (the pipe showed little to no rust) (needed for safety)
2. Front struts are weak and leaking
3. Front breaks pulsate (moderate)
3. Recommended 4 wheel alighment
4. Power Stering Belt is cracked (fix needed for safety)
5. Shampoo and recheck for oil leaks

Today the seller said the a/c would not blow cold air even though he got it reciently recharged and the compressor seems to be working (>rpm when engaged)

is this car worth $22000 safeted with the a/c fixed????????
the price seems good even with the above concerns,
what do you guys think??

maybe check trader.ca and see what else is available
and factor in all repair costs and that is what the car will REALLY cost u

I think it's still a good deal.

If you're planning on modifying the car later on, this is the perfect time to:
- lower the car with a new set of springs and shocks/struts
- install new rotors/pads
- install a better sounding exhaust
- power pulleys since they require new belt anyway

You can probably do all that for $5K (or much less if you shop around properly for used parts), bringing your car to $27K (or less) nicely modded already. Some of us have to replace perfectly good parts to get our cars modded up. At least you won't be wasting any.:)

I bought my 99 328i sport for $24000 wholesale with 69k (being in the carbiz) and had to do some stuff to it also for safety. It's still a good deal as they are retailing for $24-25,000 range with more kms... try to use the faults as a leverage tool (especially the AC as this can be expen$ive to repair on a BMW)

Hi and thanks for the replies to my first posting on this site!,

I ended up getting the car below: 1999 323i spt pkg, 5spd, koni shocks, H&R springs, RD frt bmper, new brake pads & rotors, pioneer premier sterero + amp, clifford alrm, dinan software, and
61,500 km = for $22,200. Has no leaks or sign of corrosion underneath. Have had a few problems with the alrm (not all features working), and stereo alternator noise. The chk engine light came on 2 days after I got it, but no change in how it runs - which is great!!

I think that it was a better deal than the 328i even though the engine is smaller. What does anyone think?
Does anyone know of a good place to get the engine light seen to who will give me a good deal? (I live in hamilton and work in north york).

It's probably close to $500 if you get them from the dealer. Check your PM.
