Hello,
I keep reading how the S52 engine was detuned to provide 240hp whereas the 'european' version has 300hp. Is it an ecu management? Catalytic Converter? If so, how easy it is to regain those lost hp? Or are there more to it that meets the eye?

As for getting to the 300HP range. There are tons of ways to get there.. all of them require a substancial amount of $$$ ;)

buy a 2000 s52, drop in an active autowerke supercharger, an m5 clutch / 8.5 lb lightweight flywheel and you'll be at 300HP without doing too much. the sc will run ya about 5300US and the clutch another 2 grand.

may i suggest that you look for an s54 m coupe if you aren't inclined to mod your car?

the s52 is bulletproof! that block kicks serious ass. i've driven one for 5 years. loved it.

if you're after power you have 2 choices...mod an s52 for about 10 grand or get an s54. if i kept my s52 i would have done the above for sure....

that being said, the coupe has a lot of power for daily driving/city driving.

not much room to use an extra 100 or 200 HP on the gardiner/DVP in rushour....

Don't plan on modding. Perhaps some simple stuff. Neways, the one I'm interested in is sold. :(

saw one 318i with S52 transplant and turbo, 375 hp on wheel... never touched the internal...... it's a very strong engine!!*th-up*
