So my question is what engines can you put into a 89 325is, and whats involved? I was looking at that S50, or something?(something being less expenseive)

Do you have to redo the whole computer system and suspension when you drop in a different motor?

I was also wondering if there is a 6 speed transmission that can be put in a E30 without much work?? I know there probly isn't *mumble*

you have to put the whole engine harness/computer into the car..theres tons of options motor wise for the e30...pick one 4/6/8 or 12 cyl
but motors that came in that body style are gonna be alot less trouble..

I have a 1984 318i that is a little tired, so I have been looking into the saem thing. The s50 is a great choice so go to zionsvilleautosport.com for the means and ebay for the engines.
I think that the m52 (2.8L) from the z3 would be the best block to use since it actaully weighs less than the old iron block four and about 300lbs less than the m20. Then use the s50 head, intakemanifold, and DME, but be certian that the DME is not EWS equiped, they are trouble because you have to have the original car and a few extra electronics form it to make the EWS system work.
Oh and you may say why use the older intake style versus the new, that is because the m52's intake manifold flows 100 cfm's less than that of the m50/s50 due to the 1996 government regualtions on emissions.
I have chosen an even tuffer route and will create a post later in the summer as I get under way.

i was thinking more along the lines of a S50, or a fourbanger turbocharged, like the 1996 318is? Or something totaly different, like a small chevy block.. but I am going to take a look into the m52 with a different manifold on it... As far as transmissions go, did BMW ever put a six speed into a later model car, like a E36?

Thanks for the info

Honestly, a five speed getrag will be more than enough especially in such a light car with a powerful engine.

But if you really want a six speed then you can most likely put the five to six speed conversion on from zionsvilleautosport.com (for the E36), because it they both bolt up to the same engine.

Just use the 99 m3 trans was it not a 6?
Also I hate the Chevy powered BMW idea, I have seen that and I think it is terrible.
Go with the m53 block, m50 head and intake manifold and 1993 or 1994 DMW and wiring harness.
