View Full Version : Project Bmw 345i Turbo.

This might be helpfull for those who have plans about turbo in there E30... My engine is a M106 and comes in 85mod 745i. 3,5liters engine with original boost about 0,4bar (1,0bar is 14,5psi). My plans are to get as much output as possible at 1,5bar (21-22psi). I'm hoping for around 650hk... Here are some pics of the project.

The piping is done by a Swedish man called "Bäckis". It's his turbo I'm jusing. The turbo is a Garrett GT42, and is made for 800hp!! At this time, "Bäckis" are tuning my engine...

If I can get 650hp, I would get around 900nm.

The teoretical toppspeed would be around 325km/t (200mph)

looks great ! what about Hartge? Do you use any Hartge components ? you call your car Hartge. please tell us about internal components: which brand piston, engine management, compression ratio etc....

The car is a Hartge H35-254ps http://www.schwarztwo.de/e30/fotost/f01015/f01015.htm

But seens the Harge has no turbo, it was reabuilt in the year 2000. Then the engine from a 745i was fittet. The engine is called M102/M106 and are simmular to the M30 by looking at it. But it's got different pistons,turbo, stronger exhaust valves, oilcooled pistons and the compression ratio is 8,0:1.

The engine has 252hp /380nm originale, but by installing a chip, you get around 400hp and 520nm.

I hope I can get the car stripped down to 1000kg.
I now have to install a rollcage so the car don't giv in for all the nm...

Here I am at a streetmeet...

I took apart the engine today.
I'l come up with some pic's in 15min.


But I'm going to juse this front when the car is finish. This gives more air to the Intercooler.

This is one of the strongest engine ever bulit by Bmw, so I hope for an engine who can handle much output over a longer time.

The exhaust systen from the engine will have one small silencer.

Insted of piping the wastegate together with the exhaust system, I'm going to pipe it in separat system, with no silencer at all.

It's going to be a 2" pipe, and I'm letting it out on the oposite site of the engine's exhaust.

It's gone end in 4" like the other one.

Then imagine the sound from wastegate-exhaust on full trottle. When the wastegate opens max on free flow with NO silencer.

When I let go the pedal, it's quiet again.

Get it?

Here's a pic of the car before a started tuning it.
The output at this time was around 400hp / 520nm.

I'm having a new radiator spesial made fro my car. It's a "as large possible" type of radiator. Made in the same design and style as the intercooler.

Now here are some uppdates.

I've now got my engine back from Sweden.

I've bought some stronger.... That thing who holds the piston.

The engine is now weight-ballansed.

The turbo was not big enough, so I bought a bigger one.
The new turbo is capible of 1100hp.

The intercooler was not big enough either, så I bought a bigger one.

I needed a bigger trottle-house too. The new one is 80mm (3,15")

The fuel-pumps are bought. It's two Bosch pumps. They can manage 1200hp together.

The cylinder-head is also finished, but I'm not getting it until next weekend.

I'm now making the engine ready for output over 1000hp, but I'm expecting 800-850hp / 1000-1100nm torqe. But the output is with regular 98 fuel.

I'm gonna let you know when it's finish.

The engine is now capible of 8000rpm.

If I take the engine all the way to 8000rpm on every gear, the speed would be:

1. 80km/t 50mph
2. 140km/t 87,5mph
3.220km/t 137,5mph
4.320km/t 200mph
5.385km/t 240mph

I suppose the topspeed are around 330-340km/t 205-215mph

The boost is gonna be close to 2bar (30psi) now.

That car is fittet with M50/B28 now, and 1000hp on metanol.

I'm heading for PPF next weekend to collect my parts.

Nobody knows Bmw like PPF.

I by the way run a shop called Pure Performance Import (PPI).

I sell parts for Pure Performance Factory (PPF) in Norway.

It's a good marked for turbo-converting bmw's i Norway.

that looks good i am also building a 335is turbo it should be done in a few months i will be running 400+ RWHP and 450RWTQ not 100% sure but i have a lot of head work and 20psi with just a chip and stock wireing harness.

Hartge: What are you going to use for a Diff!?!?! I saw in the PerformanceCar BMW Mag the black 325 with the M3 style guards and the 875hp S38B38, mmmmm, was using a complete E28 or 34 rear subframe/trailing arms thus the massive rear guards.

I'm putting a Supra LSD & axles/CV's into my E30 which should be more than enough for my proposed 400rwhp.

I've been playing with the idea of building a 335 turbo for a while.Yours is the second one I've seen now.Looks awesome,love that intake. *love* now you've got me thinking again.
