Would it be worth my while to change the rear end on my 84 318i?

If so, what gearing should I get (out of what which doner vehicle)?

Try getting a 4.10 limited slip from the bone yard.. they came on 325IX and 90-91 318is, or maybe one from an automatic.. all the E30 diffs should bold up it's just finding the right gear at the right price.

If you want more power why dont you get a 2.7 ETA engine? They are cheap, not hard to find, and when used with the 3.91 diff that you have, that car will pull very hard!

just my $0.02

Why wouldn't I spend money on my baby!!!!

If a rear end would improve performance, why not.

The only thing that you forgot Rob, is what better car to mod can he find for that price. For example, my car is worth $1500 at the most, yet I can't wait to make some money this summer ane buy some parts for it. The way I look at it is that I love my car and I'm not gonna find anything I love any more unless I spend alot more money than I will puttting simple mods on my car.

I say you should do whatever you want to your car, just realize that you won't ever get back what you spend (except in enjoyment!).

Your only problem is finding on that fits, the diffs dont bolt up. the 6's work with the 6's and 4's with 4's so your only choice is to find a 4.10. Im not even 100% sure if a 4.10 fits in either...
