I've just bought a '86 325e with a burnt engine and great body. It is now my plan to build this car up. I would like the board's advice on how to proceed in the short term.

I've got the opportunity to get a '89 325i for $350 with a 5 speed, some other good parts, including the whole powertrain.

The eta's engine has no rubber or electrics from the fire.

How would you guys proceed? Get the 325i and go from there? Or wait and find an eta engine from a wreck so the swap of parts would be easier?

Finally, it will be my goal to turbo this car, eurostyle will be getting an order of a full kit from me too :) so I really don't want to make decisions now that will limit me in the future, but I can't afford to go hog wild until I sell my e39 540i. :op

Thanks eh?

wait on the motor... drop an m50 (e36 325is motor) in.

How easy is that to "drop in"? Will it mesh with the 5 speed already in it?

I was also considering the m3 motor for sale on this board.

It does bolt on, but unless you have $3G and a lot of time i say go for the 325i swap. You will need to change the harness/computer, but i guess that was damaged by the fire anyway. You should also look into swaping the diff from the "i".
