I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be? I just did a rad flush and changed the thermostat with oem and still no heat. When she's idling in the driveway I have some heat but the minute I move, cold air again I just can't figure it out. It's
a m42 engine also used in the early e36's. Also the upper rad hose never seems to have any pressure built up. I'm stumped any help would be appreciated.

You might have a bad heater core or a air lock

I did bleed the system, that was the second thing I tried, and the temp gauge goes up to normal and stays right in the middle. the thing I don't get, is that when in standing still I have heat, as soon as I start driving it turns cold but the temp gauge is still up to normal. it is very strange

very strange...the only reason ive heard of for this situation is that the coolant is too low.....but im sure youve checked that so....try this...let the car idle with the rad cap off for about 45 mins...top it up if it needs it.....ive heard of cars where you need to bleed the heater.....if that doesnt work then im stumped!!!

If that doesn't work, you can always check to make sure the thermostat isn't in backwards (I'll admit, I did it the first time I did that, but I was much younger then)...
