every statistic i look at for the 325is has 0-60 times of 7.5 or higher. is it really that slow or am i just looking in the wrong places. I would think that a car w/ 189HP, 5spd that just tips the scale at over 3000lbs would be a bit quicker. why so slow? Im trying to learn more about E36 so if anyone could give me anymore insight that would help.

hey i have a 325i e36 auto and trust me it doesnt take 7.5 0-60 so a manual must be faster

You have a euro spec car. And we all know anything euro is better than American :p

BMW's are not straight line cars, no matter how much you want them to be.

I used to have a E36 325is 5spd with a few mods and the G-Tech stated i sprint to 60 within 6.8 seconds.I heard stock they reach 60 within 7 seconds.

thanks for your replys. i know its a great car, and a wonderful overall performer that beats almost everything in the twisties. I Guess its not all about how much power it is, its all about how the power is put down and the feedback from that power*love* . thanks again.

I think it's awesome how tight BMW builds their engines. They get faster once they break in.

All that junk in your cylinder walls helps!

Any engine loosens up and creates more power after break in.

uhmmm...should i start to cry??? *sad*
my 325is says that it weights 3990lbs...is there that much difference between the 4dr & the 2 dr? (bout 900lbs??)

at least that what's written on the metal plate on the driver's door...

can anyone confirm this???

by the way...my 325is is running bout 6.5sec (have some little mods like air filter, exhaust, and some little work on the head cylinder). Stock...if i am not mistaken...it should be running bout 7's

oh..and uk325sport....difference between 325is and normal one..."is" are 2 doors...and US Specs...Europeans don't have the "is" label on the 2dr model...

The weight on the inside of the door is the Gross Max Vehicle Weight. Its how much the car can weigh, with people and luggage. Like if you were to load up your car and put it on the scale.

It was from Car & Driver, not much more solid than that.

And if you don't know the difference between curb and gross weight I have little confidence in your knowledge in specs in the first place.

the i and iS models in europe got the same engine (same as the one here) except the iS is like the E30, its a sports pkg with nicer seats, more options, spoiler, different suspension too

thats how it works in North America but in Europe i think the iS is for the sports package...there they can still have a 325i 2dr

7.5 sounds right for an automatic
7 would be about right for a 5speed.

power to weight it makes perfect sense

i dunno about 7 sec.... I always go my friend who has a VW 337 which is rated for 6.8 0-60 and he smokes me by a lot more than .2 seconds.... maybe its just me or my car is lacking power...

actually in europe there's no "is" model....it's simply "i" (318i, 325i, etc.) and that's for the 4dr as well as the 2dr...of course then we would have the "iC" for newer models...but as far as i know...the "is" is just used on the 2dr US Spec models...I researched that before buying my 325is...and that's the info that i found...(2yrs ago...so, don't remember where).

I work at a dealership and drive a lot of different types of cars (used cars) like one of the guys on this thread said bimmers are NOT straight line cars. when I compare my car off the line to say a cobra mustang the mustang can push 40 just in first gear....a bimmer is granny geared so low in 1st/2nd/3rd the powerband gives out at like 3-4 grand (3rd starts to pull harder though). 1st gear on my car maxs out at maybe 20. You'll spend all your 0-60 time shifting! But bimmers can smoke others on the freeway and around the curves. compare off the line times to other cars and then compare like 60-80 times. I bet bimmers would start to lead the way. Our cars are mostly all top end

It's not that short, my 328 is geared identically to a 325. Here are my first 3 gears at redline (6750rpm) with 235/40/17 tires. With the stock 205/60/15 or 225/50/16 these numbers are slightly higher.

1st - 59.6km/h (37mph)
2nd - 100.5km/h (62.5mph)
3rd - 149.8km/h (93.1mph)

In 0-60mph you shift once. 0-100km/h you might have to shift twice depending on tire wear.

with the euro spec cars there is no 325i sport unless its a e30 4door and 2 door all the same
