Wow!!! What a difference ... highly recommended mods. I'm just not used to using 6th gear.

Did my ex 540 a few years ago and loved the quicker acceleration especially the 1-2-3 gears.
Only when I put the old 2.82 gears when I sold the 540 did I feel how slow the acceleration became.
BTW, next on your to do list should be a shortshifter.

Curious?

Who did the mod, R/T Motorsport?
How much for both mods? If you don't mind me asking..

I have been told of Rick and the good work he does, its just that he wants me to book an appointment and I wanted some more feedback before turning over my baby to him..

Fern,
Rick from R/T Motorsport did the work on my ex-540.
I can vouch for his work.
If you talk to him, mention that David with the silver M5 referred you.

David,
This may be your ex-differential that I got ... it's off Archie's car. Short shifter was one of the first mods I got done, Motronix(I don't think I'm spelling it correctly) did it(in Woodbridge).

Fern,
Rick did it, very please with the work and service. I paid $500+tax for the double differential job(one for Archie and one for me).

So, I got dinan CAI, high flow air flow meter, exhaust, some crazy software, 3:15, SS, CDV ... what am I missing (performance wise) besides the supercharger?

Rush,
Was Archie's car a black 99' 540?
I did sell it to someone from this board about 2 years ago with a car fitting that description.
Just out of curiosity, what did you pay for the diff?
Are you interested in doing some lapping days at Shannonville in your car?

Major Mackenzie and Mellville (2 minut walk to the new Fortinos)...

I have heard only good stuff from R/T Motorsport. Good News!

Sounds like there are a few 5er members in the Vaughan area like me, crusher, miguel, etc...

We should have a Vaughan mini-meet some day!

:)

Rush,

Archie had a 98 black 540. $300. I've always wanted to go ... but never did. If you don't mind showing me around, I'd love to go. I have 19s for the summer, will it effect the experience?

What mods have you done to the M? SS I'm guessing, suspension???

We should have a Vaughan mini-meet some day! I'm in ;)

Did Motronix install their own SSK on your car or you bought the SSK somewhere else and just got them to install it?

I'm curious because I am thinking of getting a UUC and I came across motronix web site and found they have their own and I'm wondering if anyone has it on their car.

Thanks,

Daytona did mine ... they do the distribution and installation for Motronix now. I've had it for over 2 years and very happy with it.

Rogue is considered one of the best SSKs on the market(for bimmers).

If you like rebuilds go for it. Personally I'd stay away from pullies on the M62.

DavidM5,
The Rogue SSK is my other choice, along with the UUC EVO3. I'm just curious because Motronix has one for CAN$160, which is a very good price.

Rush,
Just to clarify, is this the SSK you got? (Click on Short Shifters and there's only one for $160)

Jos,
I have the Rogue SS in the M5.
Back when I did it, it only cost me US$135.
BTW, the stock M5 shifter is about halfway in throw between the original 540 and the Rogue.
Next on my to do list is the WSR rod which was not available when I did the SS.

Rush, you did well on the 3.15 diff.
Cost almost as much to put it in!

As for lapping days, no problem, I can show you the ropes so to speak.

The M5 is essentially stock except for stainless steel brake lines and the shortshifter.

This just in!
I just ordered from Rogue the newer SS kit for the M5.
Spoke to Ben at length and decided to do an upgrade to mine so bottom line is my Rogue shortshifter is for sale.
This will work on the 540 as well cos that's what I had it in originally.
Call me for details.

Yah right! The he diff mod for the M5 is only a zillion bucks!
Especially with the limited slip diff.
I'd rather do the suspension on the beast because it's sloppy around the corners. The speed is plenty fast for me.

Oh, BTW, I'm a Mississuaga resident, but my office is in Woodbridge.

How about a get together of 5 series owners?
Say at the BMWCC meeting at Tireworks in Missisauga March 9th?

what kind of suspension mod are you planning to put on ur m5?

DavidM5

KW coilovers seem to be the way to go.
Dinan stage 2 is also on my shortlist.

I have Dinan Stg. 3, and I like it pretty much. It does improve the handling a lot; however, the car is still sitting too high, and I also want a firmer ride. Believe it or not, the ride is pretty comfortable even with stg. 3.
I also had a chance to ride in a M5 with KW suspension, and the ride was a little bit bumpy to me. Would you consider using H&R coilover?

DavidM5

familysedan,

What did you pay for the stage 3?
Do you have an M5 as well?
What is the pricing on the H&R coilover?

Rush

Just to clarify, is this the SSK you got? (Click on Short Shifters and there's only one for $160)
That's the one ... you can try it out at the next meet and see how you like it.

As for lapping days, no problem, I can show you the ropes so to speak Just let me know when.

I would suggest Sat, Mar 10th for the meet.

Suspensions:
I'm looking to upgrade suspension as well (group buy?:D ) ... too much bodyroll
Options:
1. Dinan S3 or equivalent (Koni shocks, H&R springs and Eibach sway bars) - is what I'm leaning towards
2. KW - I've been in a 540 w/KWs ... too harsh for me
3. H&R coilovers - I'm not too familiar, but I've heard good things ... any info?

David,
Yup, I am also an M5 owner. I can't really recall how much I paid for the Stage 3 suspension since I had strut braces installed at the same time. I think it around 4~5K labour, taxes all included (stg3 suspension alone). I had it done like 1.5 year ago, and the exchange rate is better now. I think you should be able to get it cheaper than I did.
My guess is the H&R coilover would cost around 2K US.

Rush,
Thx for the clarification on the Motronix SSK. CAN$160 is a hell of a lot cheaper than a Rogue/UUC at US$240 plush shipping and customs duties. I'll call Motronix about it.

Jos,
Would you be interested in buying the Rogue SS that's on my car right now?
Oops I just noticed you have a E46....
Anyways, I just ordered the newest Rogue version and that price ($240) includes the weighted shifter rod which improves the feel of the shifts FYI.
