Recently i washed my car with dishsoap (yeah yeah i know) but i used it mainly to strip the wax and other crud off my car so i could start from scratch. I then washed it again with some car soap so that i didn't get any residue or streaks. I finished it off with some Mother's Gold pure Carnauba wax (the hard cakey kind) and it looked pretty good, but it's not good enough.

Help me out here, what products should i buy next to achieve that new paintjob look without spending money on new paint?

I've heard about sealer/glazes, should i get some of that?

I dont want to use a whole lot of rubbing compound, but if i need to i know how to do it properly.

I think we can all benefit from this thread if some of the people who own show cars can lend us some tips =)

Dude...i've used all different kinds of waxes/polishes on my bimmer. I know Meguiars and Mothers give off great shine but it's not the wet Looking shine. I finally bought some Zaino polish. It is made of polymers that bring out the wet look and the deep shine. It gives off such a mirror finish on a car. I bought the Z1 prep, Z2 polish, and Z5 swirl remover. U have to put the z1 first on the car and then Z5 or Z2 depnding on if you hve lots of swirls. The Z2 and Z5 have to dry at least an hour before you wipe off. And after each coat u apply, the shine and depth of the paint get deeper and glossier. It is some real good stuff!www.zainobros.com (http://www.zainobros.com)

sorry bro,
i don't know if they have local dealers in Toronto. I live in New York and the Zaino guys are located in New Jersey. I ordered my stuff on a friday and i got it by FedEx on monday morning. Why don't u call up the guys @zaino and ask them about any local dealers in Ontario. Hope this helps you...BTW..i have a few relatives in toroto (markham and scarborough) They own a sign shop called KNN SIGNS in toronto...just thought if you knew this name by any chance...

take care!

hmm it all depends on how much it costs for me really

if it's too much i'll just have to stick to rubbing compound, sealer/glaze, and pure carnauba wax =)

Carnuba wax has a great shine, but it only last for like a week, I'd go for a synthetic wax, it last way longer and it protects better.

What brands are synthetic waxes that are easily available other than Zaino?

both meguiars and mothers offer a synthetic wax

rob: thats what i plan to do when i get a paint job and body kit
i usually do that whenever i get a car painted because it makes the paint's beautiful lustre last much much longer.
plus it protects everything.

i dont think i want to spend that kind of money on the paint right now with all the little imperfections my car has.
hopefully i'll be looking at a respray next year

Dudes!!! It IS available here in Toronto - I found out from the VW forum... In Square One there is a haircut place called "Barber's Chair" or something like that on the lower level... they have the complete line of products there!!! From my research Zaino really is the best!

Good luck

What do you guys think of Zymol?

i dont have much experience with waxes, this is the first bottle of wax i've bought, before i just used what was layin around in the garage (BAD IDEA). i've waxed the car once with zymol and it seems ok? i'm not that into it yet since its just to make sure my sh!t paint doesnt get any worse...

My brother had a bit of rust on his hood, its costing him 1g just to get the hoood painted! that is insane (94 318is jet black, I think).
How much are you paying to get your car painted?

I've used zymol for a few years now and I have been pleased with the results. Its bit time consuming, but if you have a few hours to spare, its a good system. If you do the full 1+2+3 (wash, cleanse, wax) process, it comes out looking great and lasts a few months.
I wouldn't use the wax without using the HD Cleanse first, the wax just doesn't bond right(its not actually wax, its enzymes that creates wax when it bonds to paint). If you just use the wax it looks streaky.
My only complaint is it doesn't do great job hiding swirl marks. I just ordered a klasse set, so I'll post on which I think is better.

cool
thanks guys i'm gonna try and pickup some of that stuff

zzzreyes: i'm paying $900 to get my car resprayed the same colour, and body work done. (through my mechanic's friend)

$1000 for just the hood is insane, unless that covers the cost of a new hood.
