What would you guys think if I did this...

say I sold my 325ix, maybe I could pull in about 6000 if i wait for the right sale, then I pick up an e30 325is (pre-facelift) for about 2-3 grand... spend the other 3 grand on a full mtech2 kit + paint + rims

is it hard to find a good condition oldstyle e30? i dont want something thats gonna gimme problems.... ive had my e30 for a year already and no problems, been running perfectly

am i crazy?

Nope u r not crazy.
RWD e30 have more torque than the IX and its much funner to drive cause u get fishtailiing.

the problem is gettin a Clean Mint E30. Am lookin for one as well.
GO for a 90 325is. but it gonna cost lke a 3-5Gs for a clean nice one.

yeah thats what im thinking... but 1. it will be really hard finding one in as good condition as mine is, plus i cleaned it up so nice the interior is plactically mind condition

and 2. its gonna be hard getting my dad to go for it, he hates the idea of me having a rwd car, that was one of the reasons i got the ix

but i really want an is, lol

the problem is finding a e30 without problems or in good shape. Best ones are the completly stock ones. So you dont have to worry about some guy that took a few too many shortcuts.

Ha, if you can get an M-Tech2 kit, paint it, and buy rims and tires for $3000 you sir are a magician. Do you have any idea how much it is for a good paint job?

Keep your damn car! Mint E30's are starting to become non-existent. Just buy a solid suspension setup and live happily ever after. Screw that E36 dream, the early models are even less reliable than your 'ix.

my friend just got a 86 325 for $3800. has a few problems but nothing major. paint is cracking in some places, and a few wear and tear items but over all really well maintained

Don't Mtechs only fit 88 and after?

kit ~1000, paintjob nothing fancy ~1000, used rims+tires (for summer only so tread doesnt matter as much) also ~1000

im still kinda hung on the e36 idea, i know it would be like a snail but im after the styling more than the speed

though you know most likely i will end up keeping my car, these are all longshot hopes (my only (well main) beef with my car is that its 4dr, i swear if it was 2dr i would have no worries)

lol mike, i want to, trust me im trying... when i finish uni though im hoping im gonna get something like a late model 328is, or maybe e46 325/330ci... just gotta get through these 4 years somehow

Don't Mtechs only fit 88 and after?

I dont believe so, look at AndreNY's car.. its the prefacelift and its mteched.

Do what you want but please don't get an E36 cause you would probably be dissapointed. By the way i've got nothing against E36's, just prefer E30's that's all.
