Hello all,

Just wondering what would be a good deck to buy for my '94 318is? What should I watch for? I believe I have just the standard system with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. Do I need to buy that switch that a lot of the Hk system users need to buy?

I just want to avoid having to turn the deck on full blast in order to get decent sound out of it like my buddy did until he bought that switch in order to get decent sound.

Thanks,
Tom

Headunit: Alpine (If you want MP3), Eclipse, Nakamichi, or Denon

Subs: Bramha, Resonant Engineering or Elemental Design

Components: Focal Kevlar, Infinity Perfects, DLS, or Rainbow

you might have an external amp to work around.. so changing the deck might not effect the sound as much as you want it to.

I'm from the school of "rip it out and start from scratch"

Mike, which model you got? I have one right now and I'm picking up a new one tonight. I really wanted an Alpine, but I couldn't pass this deal up.

Ha! That looks to be the SX980 or SX990, the same one that I have right now. Solid deck, I just hate the fact that it doesn't have a seperate sub pre-out.

It's also for sale in the next week or so.

I just really needed more adjustability, my new stereo stuff would suck without it.

Probably gonna sell it for about $150 or so, not sure yet.

Thank you for all of the feedback!

From what I gather, if I buy a new deck, I can just hook it up and everything should work fairly well?

Again my concern lies with the volume coming out of the speakers. My buddy has the HK system in his '98 318is had to by some kind of switch in order to get decent sound. Before that, he had to turn the volume on his deck to MAX in order to hear anything. Hopefuly this will not be an issue for me as I only have the stock 4 speaker 2 tweeter system.

Thanks,
Tom

does it bother you that the faceplate isn't detachable?... that's what stopped me from buying it.

So when you just wanan get a deck with regular system on 4 speakers ,do we still have to go and get it done profecianlly. I mean is it hard to hook it up.

Mike did you hook it up by your self?

Sorry, I meant that the back-plate isn't detachable. I know the motorized plate is, but there's still basically a visible deck in your car... how long have you had it for?.. in which area?

Thats right, but the part that holds the motorized plate closes after you remove it which then covers the other part when its closed.. making it almost impossible to see.

I've had it for about 1 1/2 years... in scarborough... so I think its safe :D

sounds good... I like the new line of Pioneer decks... I think I'm going to go with a LCD & XBOX setup for my mp3's / graphical display / etc. tho... in the end it'll be cheaper.
