Just curious to hear about everyone's opinion on adding aftermarket performance headers to an E36 engine? Any ideas on performance gains? How about exhaust noise increases? Is this a mod worth looking into for an E36 w/ the inline-6 engine?

It's definately not the first mod you should do. Basically in my opinion look into headers once you've done the following.
Intake
Exhaust
Pullies
M50 intake manifold
track pipe/high flow cat
cams
ASC delete
Fan delete
Bored Throttle Body
Software
The headers will give you a little more power, but not really worth the expense until you've really made the engine breath/spin easier first.
