Stock shocks will work fine but if you lookin for a better handling car get some stiffer ones H&R makes a good set of springs and shocks

i cant afford springs + shocks right now, esp for the ix they are hard to find... but i found a place to order springs from, they drop it about 1.3 inches in the front and 1.2 in the back.. since i just want it for looks now it will do without new shocks, i can wait a bit till i get the shocks

if your struts are in good shape then yes,if not its gonna bouce around like a gt car, heat those springs up and drop it anothe 1/2 all around when you get them.

How old are the shocks??
They will hold up,alot of people just get springs and leave stock shocks.I would rather collect for some coilovers.

It will be fine but may not last as long as it normally would have. If not valved to match your springs it is basically working harder than before. So no big deal in the meantime, you'd have saved enough by the time it gives up.

No they won't last, and your ride will be quite crappy.

you can "cut" inside the shocks :) hehe ... that way the shocks has more space to move

No, your car will suck. You'll bounce like a Honda down the 401 and blow the things very quickly. Don't cheap out on a safety item like suspension.

SebSter

my suspension is surprisingly stiff.. even stock, it doesnt really bounce around i feel every little bump in the road

plus the bouncing is more from the springs than the shocks, no?

shit, i dont even want it slammed, i just wanna close up that gap between the fenders and the wheels and have a clean look... and i cant justify spending up to 800 dollars for it when i dont even know how much longer ill have this car

Bouncing is from the shocks, shocks have to absorb the bounce.Ever heard of the bounce test??

SebSter

but if the springs are stiff, they wont give easily to let the shocks bounce... no?

Bounce test: Push down really hard and fast on the car to compress the suspension, then let go. If your suspension is toast, it'll bounce up and down a few times when you let go. It's just a test. Only your ass can tell you if it's a comfortable ride.

BTW, what lowering springs did you get for the IX and where did you buy them?

Put it like this, without shocks your car would continue to bounce up and down after going on a dip or a bump.Springs must jounce and rebound (compress and extend) as a car goes over a bump or dip, springs basically support the weight of a vechile.Alot of people confuse shocks with springs...

I still have stock rear shocks. They have not blow yet *knock on wood*

SebSter

jello_g: i didnt get any yet, but i found some h&r's.. they say it lowers it 1.3 in the front and 1.2 in the rear and it came out to 300 usd with shipping

vadim: i see what ur saying now, though still i think it wont be so bad, because again im not looking to slam the car, i just want it to look normal and not have that huge fender gap, so even it its a bit with the new springs, it still wouldnt be any worse than stock. no?

and bmxer, how long have you been riding on the stock shocks? (i mean since you put sport springs?)

It'll work, but your just gonna have a harsh ride and your gonna wear out your suspension faster.Might as well just cut your springs.I would say just wait a little and save up for spring/shocks combo, you'll be on the safe side that way.

yeap.. i just put some pics up in the rides section, you can see there how much of a gap there is, especially in the front between the fender and the tire..i could almost fit my fist in there

Just checked it out.Its not that bad......well it is but since your car is black it doesnt look that bad.

I could fit my fist in my wheel gap. My rear shocks have been in there for about 8 months or so.

It doesn't matter how much lower or stiffer the springs are, you should get new shocks anyways.

True. Its also true that I do not know what I have back there. Maybe Blistein sports made there way into the back some how.

Either way I would definatly not have stock shocks up front with lowering springs.

qimis

the car bounces because the shocks is too long and the spring is short

you can save money in Buying used M3 coil they don't drop as much as H&r or otehr after market. But with the money you will save you can buy new shock? that's what i'll do for my E30

Do not do the springs without the shocks, the ride is awful and your shocks will be shot in no time.
