I have a 1999 328i, but I am thinking of trading it in for a 2002 330ci. Handling, speed and overall quality is it worth it?

If you're into modding you can get a supercharger that will push your power to more than the 330 for less the price.

On top of which insurance on the sedan will be cheaper

get the ASA stage 2 SC kit for the 328 from renn-sport.net or wait until the ATP turbo kit is out. But stock for stock, the 330 is faster, and has bigger brakes. stock 0-60 on the 328 is 6.5, and i believe the 330 is 5.9, but not sure

I also perfer the 328 steering and throttle cable. 330 has lighter steering and a drive by wire

As I posted in your other thread, the 328 was the best E46 made. Keep it.

I've had a 1999 328i e46 as a loaner and liked the car very much, but the engine lacked the refinement of the newer 2002-2003 325 and 330 motors. The 1999 328i was a great car, but in comparison to the newer e46 cars, I preferred their engines better. Itís just smoother. But donít get me wrong, Iím in no way saying that the 328 is a rough motor. Just comparing two good motors, the newer e46 motors are nice. :)

The e36 328 is fast, but the e46 328 was a bit slower.

1998 BMW 328is 6.2 14.7
1999 BMW 328i 6.9 15.2
2001 BMW 330i 6.1 14.8

Also in 2001, the 3 Series steering was indeed light. It was fixed for later year production models. I think there was the option for owners to bring in their 2001 3 series to have it adjusted.

If you're looking for a newer car, with some warranty left, then the 330 is a nice car. You canít go wrong with it.

If there is nothing wrong with your 328, then keep it and mod the car a bit. Change the rims, put a small body kit; the car will look hot!

How much would it cost to trade your car in and pick up a 330CI????

^^^ where did u get your times from? Just wondering because BMW gives the E46 328i/Ci faster times, I just looked at the BMW booklet for the E46 323/328 that came with my car when I bought it, and the times don't match.

I've driven every model in the E46 lineup, and I'd have to say I'd take even a 323i over any 330. But "feel" is a very important issue to me, and 01+ models just don't "feel" as good, in the throttle and steering.

I have a Car & Driver article here stating a 0-60 or 6.4 for the 328i. Hell, they pegged the 323i at 7.2, you better check those numbers. I can vouch the 6.1 for the 330i though, I remember that figure.

Note that even though BMW raised the steering effort from the Buick-like '01 models, all models built after the update are still lighter in comparison to the M52TU-engined cars.

0-60 time according to BMW is 6.5 for the 328

I honestly dont want to post my opinion since i have the 330 and obviously liked it enough to buy it but before it i too was looking at a sedan and i was driving a 2002 320i and i found it very slow so then i got a 330 xi to drive and it was very nice i luved it but since i was young i ended up getting the two door which i luv but remember it does way 3176 pounds so it is not exactly going to be a race car if u are looking for speed and class in a newer coupe i would suggest a 325 ci then wit the cash you will save from the 330ci u can just put a supercharger on it
just my 2 cents

The 330 is a nice car. There is no way I'd take a 323 or 328 e46 over a 330 e46.

Now, an e36 328 is a nice car as well. I loved driving my 97 318is with the Sports Package. Everyone thought it was a 328. The handling on that was amazing (road feel and all).

I don't see how the steering on the newer e46's are bad. I'm a bit biased as well since I drive a 2002 e46. But I've driven other e46's including the e46 328i.

Back to the original question. I'd keep the 1999 328i if it's not giving problems. Keep your nice car... invest the money. :)

I love my 328 e46, but I was thinking of getting the 330 because of the extra HP and for the extra features. It's weird cause a lot of people are telling me to keep my car as opposed to swaping it. I have posted this question before (sorry if you're reading it again) but I am getting new Mags this summer, 18's , and I've heard it might slow my acceleration can anmybody tell me from experience how much?

here we go again with same question... all I will say is that I was going to buy 328ci to save money and insurance, after I thought to myself why not try 330ci, after I test drove it there was no way I would go back to 328ci and I bought 330.. now you might not see difference in first few gears, but the down low is where 330 shines... I'll stop now before all 328 owners will start telling me to stop talking shit ...

why don't you go test drive 330 yourself ? best of luck...
