View Full Version : High beam problem...

Ok, as you all know, i dont have the center high beams, but my outer lights, ALSO have high beam bulbs in them, so i had the benefit of both, until yesterday. I wanted to flash someone in front of me for going slow on the 400 (below 150), and i noticed that my lights completely shut off when i pulled the lever towards me to flassh the High beams... is it becuase the high beams in both lights burned out, since i drove with high beams only for about 2-3 weeks, or is it something else?
I just cant figure out, WHY i would have high beams and they would BOTH all of a sudden stop working... btw i have the normal sealed beams..

yea most likely the highs in both bulbs wore out, its like 20 bucks for a new light at canadian tire i think

thanx man... cuz i checked the fuses, and the relay, and they all seemed fiine...

yeah, same thing happened to me on my drivers side when i put on the high beam only the bulb toward the middle goes on, the one on the side shuts off.. so i need to get it changed too, i was thinking to do the upgrade to those hella h4s, i remember someone had a set for 80 bucks and they're just plug-n-play swaps

Me too . When i put high beams on my passanger side regular light switches off. In that case all of them work but one on passanger side. What bulb do i need and How much should it go for? It is not ugrent but it bothers me when the passengers side turns off.

yeah the hella replacement H1 highs h4 lows seems like a nice replacement for stock lights $45/globe. I've been saving a little here and there to get some. I might just start with the lows first to see if the highs are worth the extra money. However, if I come across some cheaply priced Ellips I may drop the hellas.

This light upgrade does scare me alittle because I don't want to produce to much heat in and around my lights nor the light wiring. The sealed beams already get pretty hot, even on low.

Terry, the highs are wired in series with the lows, when the high filament blows it cuts the power to the lows also. You need new bulbs.

I have Hella H4's, and they are frickin' amazing. And I have seen back-to-back comparison pics with Ellips, the H4's put more light on the road. If you're going to go all out and install HID then the focused nature of Ellips is the way to go, but with halogen hardware the H4's are very, very good.

Can I do that upgrade if I have sealed beams? I just want to know.

You can buy them from Bav Auto or BMP. I would go through Bav Auto although both of their customer service reps suck.

this question is for anyone who has the H4/1 Hella lights is the light distribution scattered or directional.

i consider my sealed beams bright but nondirectional, but give me 10 years and all be calling HID to the rescue if you know what i mean.

hummmmmmmm, i guess i could search the ever ending world wide "web" for useless and useful information

The H4 conversion is the best mod you will ever do..........Man they are bright! Way brighter then my e36 and it is a plug and play application.
Cross Avenue Auto sells them for $100.00, 905-845-0666.

Jay did you ever fix your problem with the highbeams when you did the h4 conversion cuz i don't think the electrical system had enough juice to power the highbeams and only the right side would work when you turned em on

02-17-2004, 02:31 PM
I know you're not referring to me, but I never had such an issue. Strange...
