what's wrong when engaged in 4th gear, while driving, the gear comes out by itself? what sort of thing do I need to check?

syncro's are starting to go. I had this happen with a previous transmission in another car. Eventually you'll start losing other gears. Transmission will have to be replaced or rebuilt.
