I installed one on a 540 not long ago and it sounded MEAN!

How much does something like that cost? How long will it last?

installed about $300 at my shop..
Im not sure how long they will last...I've never seen one come back in the 4 years I've been at the garage... but they come with lifetime warranty which means if it does fail..u get a new one no charge...at least thats the way we do it at my shop

How much for just the muffler, lemme know!
PM me with details too!

Do you custom work?

02-06-2004, 03:52 AM
yes and no...at the shop we mostly do custom exhausts for anything..but I've been known to take on other things personally...custom intakes/ engine swaps/ tranny swaps... that sort of stuff

Which aftermarket exhaust doesnt sound mean on a 540,even stock 540i's sound mean.I would never think magnaflow would sound good on a I6 motor........i wanna hear that sound clip.

540s are beast.

i put a magnaflow on my car--the model with the dual square up slanted tip looks and sounds awesome

I was looking at buying that EXACT same muffler during the summer. Did you get the one with the 3" tips or 4" tips?

Vadim is right, V8 sounds mean already.
So if it sounded mean on 540, doesnt mean it will sound the same on i6.

All I can say, is that Archie's 540i is the best sounding bimmer ive ever heard. (I think he has Magnaflow)

what shop do you work at man i am looking for a custom exaust for my e36 but i want mine to look like the m3 i know how to do it but i dont have a pipe bender... you got the exact muffler i was looking at i really like that one.... how do you bend the piping at your shop... (i mean what type of machine)

02-09-2004, 03:06 AM
I work at Carline Mufflera and we use a Ben Pearson bender.... It can bend anything up to 3.5".... we've done custom work like your talking about. We did quad tips coming out the back of a new celica but the was a problem with where the spare tire sits cause it makes the exahsut hang down too low...

so you have to options...cut the spare out and raise up that holder about 6 " or make sure the rear body kit is low enough to cover up the pipe work and just show tips.... on the celice he had a low rear bumper so it was ok..... every car is different though...

but from being under my car...there is now way u car get it to come out M3 style unless you raise that recess for the spare up a bit....

these aftermarket exhaust scare me because i live three blocks from the police station. For a 318 to be ready for the next gear you must go to like 3.5-5kRPM which is LOUD. nonetheless what good is a loud exhaust if you have noting to back it up *Honda-Acura-Miata*.

i had that EXACT same muffler on my cavalier.. i liked it, but people said it was too loud.. maybe it was too loud for a slow car is what they really ment :) but from inside the car, i thought it had a nice rumble.
