View Full Version : Xenon headlight for E30

01-21-2004, 04:26 PM
My E30 is '87, it has euro style H1 parabolic headlights.
I am trying to install E39 stock Hella HID projectors. What do you think about its appearance? I consider to paint the reflector to black. Like smoke Hella. The low beams have clear glass. Should I change the high beams to clear glass or leave them same. What is your opinion?

Looks like a good retro-fit. I would see if there is a glass or lexan cover to put over the projector unit though....just to give it come protection.

yes, there is a cover. It is clear plexiglass (may be called acrylic). Also I will install angel eye rings. I will liken to this.

Ah sweet, it should turn out really well then!
You might have a bit of a problem aiming the lights, but after you fiddle with that and lock it down, you shouldn't have to ever touch it again.

The lights are not parabolic...they are elipsoidal.

That is why they are called elipsoids.:)

Wow that would look money$$$$$$, does it cost money$$$$$??

What about wiring. Do you know of any changes need yet? I'm asking because lately I've been thinking of doing the same thing since my school is right across from a salvage yard....

replies please

I haven't finished yet, still have indecision about the lights, smoke type or clear type...

The wiring is easy, Xenon device is connected in series like an ordinary bulb... No any modification required...

I'm set on the fact that h4's look the best. The projectors look kinda goofy in the day time, but the H4's look stock at day and sweet at night

02-18-2004, 05:02 PM
totally agree with the H4's..........very bright!

02-18-2004, 05:07 PM
anyone have a image of H4? I just wanna see it.

02-19-2004, 12:45 AM
yeah an image would be nice.

where can i pick up the angel eye for my e30

Nickieplace or that other one either way it has been report a COUNTLESS number of times that these kits are all rip offs. I think Hella makes a kit, anyone know about this. Lastly to me they don't look good on an e30 unless theres a bodykit or some sporty spoiler.

This is the result:

Wow, I'm very very impressed! I think your hid ellipsoids look even better than OEM ones for the e30, and to top it off, they have angel eyes too! You're going to make a lot of people jealous on this board, that's for sure! *th-up*

04-19-2004, 10:26 AM
Holy crap! Is the output of that better than the euro ellips w/ xenon's? SHIET.

04-19-2004, 06:27 PM
I didn't think they would look that good mounted, BUT DAMN!!! I want them

Infact one of the low beam lenses had cracked and the other had a water problem in the past, I am sure that taking off the lenses are very hard so I broke them and installed handmade clear plastic lens (not glass)...

Installation cost might be vary in all conditions. To find smoke Hella in my country is not easy, so I decided to convert from parabolic to elipsoidal type at the same time xenon + angel eyes. Most of the parts are used, so this cost may be different at your location. I spent about $500 totally.

04-20-2004, 12:53 AM
so what parts do you need to acquire to complete this converison?

04-20-2004, 01:03 AM
i gotta say that looks amazing, so you just took e39 lights out of the casing and used those? seems like a good project i love the turnout.. too bad getting the e39 lights would probably be just as expensive as actually buying euro ellipsoids

04-20-2004, 08:57 AM
I used OEM Xenon type E46 projector + Hella balasts + Philips bulbs. For elipsoidal lights E39 projector is reasonable but for parabolic type ( I think people call sealed beams) E46 projector is essential. There is size difference. I wrote the cost in US Dollars, not Canadian. yea, here is the details

attention: there is lots of labour that can not be seen in pictures :) not an easy job.

so what your saying is that all i need is e39 headlamps? they where made with xenon or hid from the factory?
